Surely it would act as a giant heatsink...so no worries about temperature there! I'm sure if you could afford one of these then you'll have more than enough for a spare motor... OK, some detailing's a bit iffy, but it's after use - heat cycles, manifold changing, etc., that paint starts fading and flaking doesn't it? johninderby Posted September 26, 2014 Share Posted September 26, 2014 While it's trying to look like a small block chevy the compromises made to allow enough space inside for an electric motor mean the bottom half of the engine is totally the wrong shape. And yes it is possible to keep a 1:1 engine like that looking "new" even after a few years. Of course the other bits and the headers do hide the block a lot which helps. Tamiyacowboy Posted September 26, 2014 Share Posted September 26, 2014 (edited) Hmm A part of me says they left it as is, for people to detail it how they please Another part of me says they were lazy..look at that air cleaner notice the port holes and the fixing areas, gives a clue that maybe this will come as a two part purchase, the main engine shell , and to follow a pro kit out . where your able to finish with jump leads, outlet and inlet manifolds and other sparkley stuffs. yes its expensive and it has to hold a 540 size can, so its cnc cut and milled , not cheap these days also notice those two large holes either side of the bottom sump area, now take a mag glass and focus up the bottom image above, notice there is a black possible alloy mounting foot that allows the unit to be bolted to the main subframe, so thats a whole lot of stiffness added to the front ladder chassis section. another thing is most V8 engines you see are shoved into a chassis bay and look filled out, you dont see the engine naked without its electricals, belts pullys etc etc. these are parts YOU add on to make your model scale. Added extras : the 540 motor was a mistake but they had to conform with nearly all 1/10th scale running standard silver can units something like a 380 size motor would have given you a better less squarish look, but 1/10th on 380 cans aint really great. brushless wise ok but cooling is an issue, to conform i would say the inside is milled out somewhat to to leave space for slightly different can sizes. a wondering idea, a plastic version thats cheaper but allows for brushless motor fitting, using smaller can sizes to gain more asthetics /looks Edited September 26, 2014 by Tamiyacowboy Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tamiyacowboy Posted September 26, 2014 Share Posted September 26, 2014 Point is this part where it says " CNC MILLED FROM BILLET ALLOY " CNC milling aint easy, you dont just shove a picture into the machine and by magic out comes an engine casing or head unit. Some poor soul has to sit and draw all this information in, then convert it to G-code so the machine itself understands. you have to mark out areas that are lower than surrounding and likes all round the 3D model. then the time it takes to mill out these units, CNC milling IS NOT QUICK, the shave away fractions on every pass and that could take 20 passes for a small area. tools to cut with cost a fortune to, a cnc miller with a bad tool is not a good thing, you could knacker the unit. all this adds to cost, going cast alloy yes you get more detail, but thats something in cnc that is governed by the tools cutting tip, smaller tip means more chance of failing so thats more costing ontop. also remember this is scaler stuff not the joe 90 basher, this is mr smith that replicates everything in smaller scale and shows them in comps and concours shows Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tamiyacowboy Posted November 14, 2014 Share Posted November 14, 2014 Shell is a plasticard build i would say, i see lots of marking out and blue ink staining lol i also think at one time the body was a pickup truck with an open tailgate bed, not the enclosed cab-man like rear covering. i still think this engine SHOULD be a brushed/brushless model, IE a brushless motor built into the engine housing itself. output shaft direct to the transferbox come gearbox. then the engine would be well worth the price it commands. Here's another mostly custom build I did last year...! . My Rothmans Ford Escort MK2 Rally Car..the body is lexan that I bought from a dealer in Finland, but the chassis is all homemade. RWD with a live axle mounted on leaf springs, the motor up front in the traditional 'north / south' orientation mated to a modded tranny connected to axle with a driveshaft located in the trans tunnel ! Also has working front disc brakes that are servo activated. The interior is all made from styrene except the seats...lol!
