A question for anyone who knows anything about camera's.

OK, so I got one of those SJ4000 the other day, its great! However after a little drop onto CARPET whilst in its protective case, this happend: Well, ZERO marks on the len's, so thought I had damaged the sensoer (I know nothing about camera's) however after getting anoyed, I decided WTH and droped it from about 3-5" onto a wooden desk, very very small drop, and well, its back to normal, no signs of any issue's. So, what could have cused this? I see no diffrence in quality of video from before the spot, during the spot, after the spot, the damage clearly was not permanent but a small drop seem's to have fixed it? And droping it again onto my desk in the same way has not bought it back. Just hoping it doesn't become a frequent thing. Its seems as good as new. Any idea's what caused it?

That looks to me like a pressure spot some it may have got stuck to the top glass

yup something was on the lens sensor thingy.  it's nothing like a dead pixel or something like that.

Hmm so just don't drop it again then, yes it was pretty cheap onky

its called a Dust Bunny

 

i doubt the camera is built in either a clean room and/or via machinery

that is in a sealed housed unit. 

 

these cameras tend to be factory floor produced via hand, cheap labour

the lense units are put in place by hand, then glued to stop any focus shift.

sometimes ( and it happens alot in cheap cameras) a speck of dust will find its way in. 

 

your jolt has shifted the dust onto the sensor front, a thin piece of treated IR blocking glass.

and hence why you have a dust bunny showing up.
Can it be repaired ? : YES but it means de-constructing the item and removing its lens,

this means trying to crack off the superglue used to hold lens in place.

you then need to blow out the internal lens mount and the lens itself with a rocket blower.

then assemble device again. 

WARNING, de - constrction by someone not in the know usually ends with a none working device

and/or even more dust problems that was first seen to have..

 

my advice would be this : DONT DROP YOUR CAMERA ANYMORE !!!!!

Hmm, dust sounds fine by me, better than a loose internal.

So no more dropping it LOL but at least I don't have to worry about it now, and if it dose happen just give it a light tap to shift the dust then.
