Oh How Original
HobbyWing 150a ESC with 2200kv motor. Will give a nice balance of torque and speed, depending on gearing obviously.

Oh How Original
I ran the 120a version in my 8ight e, and it never ran hot, motor got warm but nothing that was untouchable, think my highest recorded temp was 134F if memory serves, that was on a day that was reading 32C though, so a very hot day. cyronn
What lipos are you planning to run? 4S 2000kv-2650kv, 5S 1700kv-1900kv 6S 1500kv- 1700v. All depends on gearing and what surface the buggy is going to be run on everytime. Plus grip in the tyres and the right setup all comes into play with heat etc. edit: 150a ESC is ideally suited but for 4S a 120a ESC is doable. lilllad83
I know I'm gona get stick for this but I don't see probs using the 80a esc if geared correctly. my son uses the rage in his rc8.2, a friend has it in his mugen and another friend had it in his rc8.2 before he sold it all making the 15 min mark on 4s running a fast track layout and not once have we had any issues with thermal or appearances from the magic genie. gear right for the occasion and jobs a good'un!

Probably on the limit there but there are 1/8th RTR models sold with 80A ESC's think Ansmann Virus did it. That leaves no room though, I wouldn't recommend it Edited September 19, 2014 by cyronn
RCpete
Thanks for all the replys guys, i will be running on 4s to answer your question cyronn. Also the stock ESC in my trophy is also rated at 80amp, quite a few 1/8th rtr's come with them including the EB4 G3, virus and im sure one or two others. I must say i have had no problems. I was only going to replace it because i was gonna go for a slightly higher kv motor. Do you guys think the ESC could handle a higher kv motor, or should i just get a new one. cheers.
