Sc10 4x4 rs Rear diff Rebuild

Ok guys! I've just received this today and I had already knew it had an issue, so..... Was wondering if I could pick a few peeps brains as to what my issue is!

My problem seems to be that under acceleration I have a heavy clicking sound coming from the rear of the chassis, the truck goes and operates as normal, but does have that annoying sound.

Has anyone experienced the same? Or does anyone know what it might be before I start a strip down?

My initial thought was the spur, but it seems fine. So maybe the diff? If someone could help I would really appreciate it!

Yep, my mate has had the same thing since day one, I have completely stripped it down (he isn't too keen on stripping them down lol) and didn't find a single fault, put a hardened steel idler gear in, fresh bearings, fresh grease etc... The mesh was also perfect and it still does it under hard acceleration.

Now the one I had was faster than his as I was runnig the WPSC8 4700kv combo in mine so it was faster off the line and top end, yet mine never made a single noise lol.

Hit and miss, might be worth checking out but their wasn't a single bit of damage to my mates and it still makes the noise to this day.

Operates 100% perfect though, no loss of power or anything.

Just one of those really weird things.

Right! I've just done a quick search on the "clicking" noise, and to my surprise! ITS NORMAL!!! apparently something to do with brake bias and this can be adjusted or locked out to provide full wheel braking.

OHO all you have to do to stop this clicking is tighten the nut that's on the front spur gear looky likey thing! And wallah! Job done!

Google "sc10 clicker" and watch the vid.

Opinions please! Fire away!

None of the ones in my mates where loose, I had both our back ends in pieces next to each other, rebuilt them together to the exact same spec, his combo was a lot less powerful than mine but he was running on 3s.

Can't see it being the torque because it still begs the question, what exactly is it that's making the noise, we couldn't figure it out anyway.

He's happy to just ignore the noise as it's still running great months later lol.

It will be the sun gear, I ran one for a while and it did the same. Take the gears out the rear diff and shim it to take up the slop. If it still does it then the gears need to be replaced and properly shimmed when new. I had to replace the gears as they had been worn from them slipping (clicking you can hear) not a mega expensive part but not a 2 min job as its a tricky truck to work on?

Yep!! As justingt5 said, I can now confirm that the sun gear is at fault and there is a slight shiny ring showing near the outer edge from skipping/clicking, Hopefully I've caught it in time. Unfortunately! I don't have any shims/washers that fit so I have had to order the re-build kit to get them. Should be here on Wednesday. Probably going to be a 30-45min job as a whole for anyone who needs to do this as it's quite a tricky removal involving the spur gear assembly, tensioner roller and the complete rear end to be removed :(

Ok! I got my diff re-build kit delivered today and I'm planning on fitting it ASAP, but I have a question before I go ahead and install the said part.

When building the diff I believe I should build it as normal and add an extra shim under the sun gear, so just to be clear. Do I install the extra shim on top of the one already there? Or elsewhere?
