truggy motor esc and gearing questions

as some may know i am in the process of building a D8TE and had my mind settled on a castle 2200kv combo for running 6S however i have been led to believe this will probably run too hot. the stock spur is 50T however i will be running a 46T for ease of fitment. using the rc calc on 6S and a 20T pinion a 1700 kv motor would only give a top speed around 40mph which is kinda rubbish, if i were to go for a 1900-200 that would bring the speed upto around 50mph which is more like it, however the gearing seems quite tall when things like the vorza (same drivetrain) runs the castle 2200kv combo on 48/15 gearing and give speeds nearer 60mph. how much difference does going from 2200kv to 1900kv make to torque etc?

i was looking at the tenshock x812l motors probably in 1900 guise but what are peoples thoughts and opinions? what are people successfully running

The 2200kv is a great motor, but for bashing on 6s I'd probably look at the 1800kv. I'm lucky enough to own two 1518 versions, these have the longer 83mm can.

For all out speed, 2200kv. For a cooler set-up with respectable speed, 1800kv.

Can't help on gearing as I've no experience with these cars.

fancy letting a 1518 go? :P

me and mr noj realised i had ballsed up my speed calculations. now looking at a 1700kv motor and things look pretty good speed wise lol

I ran 2000kv 4282 leopard on 5s in my truggy. (50t 14tp) and was slightly hotter than i would prefer.

speed was good but i seldom ran on open fields etc..

When it comes to truggy's I favour torque .

1800kv as above as max imo on 6s.

You'll be fitting a 1717 next!

Sorry, but both mine are in frequent use.

I wouldn't rule out the HW 1800kv motor, 4274, so the dimensions are where you want them and when coupled to a HW Xerun ESC you get thermal protection for the motor too, not just the ESC. (Providing you use the sensor cable!)

Before I converted my d8t back to nitro I ran a xerun combo with a 1900kv motor on 6s. Gearing was 50/17. It was a beast maybe even a bit ott but thats how I like my rcs to be. As for heat issue I never had any everything was barely warm so I was well happy with that.

Run a 2200kv castle in mine on 5s and 17t pinion and I get temps of 60-70c.

Ran a 2350kv Trackstar and even on a 20t pinion it took half to 3/4 of a battery before it got hotter than 85c.

Even then my ESC over heat just kicks in and I wait 10mins to cool. No biggy, or wasnt when it used to happen.

Castle motors run a bit cooler than most other motors, or have for me in the past.
