Esc always in failsafe mode

Can anyone shed some light on this issue? Swapped out a knackered tamiya sport tuned for a new tamiya bz today in my madbull. Went to switch it all on and try it out, motor wouldn't work properly, intermittent power. Kept fiddling, swapping over esc's, receivers etc, and now nothing works, esc goes into failsafe mode all the time, right from the moment it's switched on. Tried different receivers, motors, crystals and transmitters, all my esc's go into failsafe mode.

Running old acoms techniplus, a 2s lipo and modelsport esc's.

Can't understand why this is happening, I assume I've broken it all?

There's normally a setup button on the side of the esc or on the switch you hold down befor you turn the power on. As said what esc are they have you got a link ?

50/50 between faulty can and faulty escs IMO, those MS branded ones aren't renowned for reliability....

Saying that, as the 20 is auto set up with no buttons to press, the faulty can may swing the odds in the escs favour ;)

Guessing you don't have another can to try to see if the fault persists?

I've got another spare Sniper 12 and the original motor, I'll try that this morning. If I left the motor disconnected, should it work then? ie, not trip into failsafe?

The motor might be the suspect then as when I first connected it up, it didn't work, just made lots of high pitches noises, and had a very erractic, short  bursts of power.

Just a thought (again), check the crystals on your radio gear are in the right way (t in TX and r in the receiver) and the batteries in your TX are good. Also check your receivers aerial for damage.

It could be that the ESC's are tripping due to a confused or no signal from the RX.

My 23't was playing up with the Modelsport ESC set up...silly, but i just swapped the polarity of the motor (swapping the cables about that run to the ESC - might have to reverse the trim on TX)

Resolved!

My sniper20 went up in a puff of smoke this morning, the other sniper rv12 (brand new) refuses to work, so I'm going to send it back, and my spare sniper rv12 works fine with the new motor.

So I'm guessing I had two faulty ESC's somehow.

Any recommendations on what to replace them with? Not going to get another modelsport one, what manufacturers are good?

  • 2 weeks later...

Despite what I said above, I shall be swapping it with another modelsport one. Emailed them today explaining the situation, new one dispatched today with return postage jiffy bag to send the dud one back. Brilliant service :)
