Hi,

This is the front diff (which I have just rebuilt with new bearings and grease etc...)

But I am getting slight back and forth movement ...is this normal?

There is always a tiny bit of play between the shaft and cup(s).

Worst case you can fit a small o-ring into the holder to stop it rattling - Providing it's all built up correctly and runs smooth it's nothing to worry about :)

There need to be a very slight play there as you are feeling the mesh between the output shaft bevel gear and the diff ring gear. Bit like you need a very slight play between spur and pinion.

yeah the lateral shift is ok , its there to help bed the internal diff mesh under torque and load.

the output shafts leading to dogbones and wheels are a key area, these move in and out

to but sometimes we add a shim to stop to much lateral movement on the output shafts.

the input shaft ( the area your had a worry over ) if this starts to sway left and right, the bearing has blown out

or the bearing carrier ( where bearing seats) has become worn.

just go easy the first couple batterys, to help lay those meshes back and get everything settled in the gearbox-transfercase
