brucey45
Am I right in thinking if I pull my pullstart and it doesn't engage the engine but does recoil it would be the one way bearing failing to work correctly? If this is the cause, is it normal that I would need to take the whole engine of the chassis just to get the pullstart mechanism off? The car is a Hong Nor sabre x3 (force 28 engine). Thanks for your help!
speedods
i believe that is correct.
Nitroholic
Most likely cause .... but there are others. Pull the motor, remove the pullstart, and pop out the one way bearing. Give it a good clean, clean the shaft, and check if the bearing grips or slips. Make sure yo keep the bearing the right way round! If it definitely will not grip...then it's time for a new bearing. You can gt fuel tracking back down the shaft coating the bearing rollers in oil, which makes it slip. The solvent in fresh fuel often cleans it enough to prevent issue...but an oil build up will stop it working. If the shaft turns with the bearing and the piston doesn't move....the backplate will have to come off. Force motors have a little sprung loaded pin sat in the crankpin which engages with the the inner part of the shaft. This transfers drive to the crank. If this fails, your pullstart won't engage with the crank. If you ever strip the backplate off a Force motor...keep it pointing carb end down when you take off the backplate, or you end up dropping the tiny spring and pin. brucey45
Well it's still under warranty and only 3 weeks old. I might take it back to my LHS and let them sort it out just incase there is any nasty surprises. Thanks for you help though chaps, at least I know for future reference. Nitroholic
If you can...get them to look at it in the shop while you are there rather than later on. Only 4 bolts to remove the engine, and one fuel line to disconnect. 4 more screws and the pullstart is off. Then they can check the OWB. brucey45
It's all sorted now thanks Nitroholic. I have stripped down, cleaned it up, put back together an it works like new. I've ordered a couple from the LHS just incase.
brucey45
What a fail. Pulled the pullstart to prime the engine and after three pulls it had gone again. Good job the new ones will be here next week.
RCbutcher
Is it a traxxas? They can leak oil from the fuel making the owb slip check that mate. Owb are not something I would stock up on with pullstart. Even my traxxas with ez start has lasted ages I just keep it clean and soak in dw40 now and then. brucey45
No it's not a traxxas it's a Hong Nor. It makes me laugh though as I have two traxxas cars one with pullstart and one with ezstart and I have had no trouble. This buggy is a few weeks old and been used twice so didn't expect to need to clean up the owb this soon.
