Plastic/Nylon Spur Gears

Is there a reason for making the spur gears from plastic/nylon?....Is it because of friction against the metal clutch gear?............My 2 speed clutch gear has stripped the teeth on the spur gears & I was wondering if I could replace them with metal ones.....The photo shows the 1st gear stripped, but it has now happened on the smaller 2nd gear.

Yeah I've been looking for metal replacements for mine, settled with plastic, only thing now is figuring out how to swap them haha, ain't got a clue haha, I was actually thinking about getting them machined, but a true point about something else breaking.

Have you weighed them?

The plastic / nylon / delrin items will invariably be lighter.

This means the (lower powered standard) truck / car / buggy can spool up more quickly than if you use a steel item.

Aluminium gears can work, but aren't much stronger than the plastic / nylon / delrin option.

Don't forget also, if you change one (say pinion) to metal to also consider changing the other (spur).

Metal against plastic generally doesn't last very long!!
