Hyper ST shocks

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm going to be starting my Hyper ST conversion today, and ive got my eye out for some shocks for it.

Anyone have any input as to what shocks i should consider buying ? Preferably threaded, and for bashing. I'm going to be running 4-6s and the ST has had no weight reduction mods so its going to be heavy, so spring options are considered aswell.

I'm looking at some mint condition Losi 8ight 2.0 shocks, are these compatible ? Or anygood ?

Are there better shocks for the money ? They are only

I was looking at these http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313&_nkw=virus+3+shocks&_sacat=0&_from=R40

My brother got a set of these second hand and I "borrowed" the springs and used them with my Hobao 20mm shocks (pretty sure it was the virus 3 shocks as they look exactly the same)

Great springs and nice thick shock oil have really helped with the terrible landings I do when using my ST

So you reckon i should just get new springs ? I'm using 60wt oil with stock springs on the current stock shocks.

Those ones you linked have alloy caps too, where as the losi ones im looking at have plastic.

The Ansmann shocks look pretty good tbh, but its worth looking for secondhand ones - maybe put a wanted ad up in the sales section

The hyper st stock shocks aren't 16mm big bores so I'm not sure what springs will fit them. Have you tried putting the black spacers on them to give the shocks more preload? Also try some thicker oil (my 20mm's have got 80wt in them! Lol)

Get the shocks mounted as vertical as possible as that also helps :)

Thought I'd try fitting my old savage big bore shock springs onto the 14mm big bores I had laying around, and they certainly work better. I had the Hellfire shock spring kit http://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/87525 and put the Yellow on the front and white on the back.

They are only just slightly smaller than the stock ones, so for the rears I used http://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/6561 and the spring coupler http://www.hpiracing.com/en/part/85231 to make up the loss of spring length. These work 10x better than those other 16mm big bores I was using, and have ordered some of these http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hong-nor-16mm-big-bore-soft-spring-set-blue-pk4-/rc-car-products/32559&PageOnly=1 for that set to put on my ST conversion.

I put the 14mm's on to the hyper 7e, took it out for 2 packs, it handles fine on Tarmac but due to having the Badlands on, the grip roll on grass is horrendous. Think I'm going to soften up the oil and springs and see how goes.

I have used these on my ST Pro and I'm using them on my SSTe now. Best shocks for the money, true big bore and silky smooth

Stock springs could be changed with some harder ones as they are a bit soft for big jumps. I have the stock Hyper ST Pro ones somewhere in my tool box so give me a shout if you're interested, they are like new.
