Build or buy what's cheaper?

What do you guys thinks cheaper to build or buy your rc?

When most people get an RTR they end up getting a new a shell, wheels, tires and spend a large amount of money on on upgrades over time so there isn't much stock after a while.

With more and more upgrades being released for models wouldn't it be cheaper in the long run to build the kit from scratch. Doing it this way you don't pay for the crappy stock part that will either break or end up in the bottom of your part box.

What do you guys think?

I often think about this but I would have to say that there are very few kits with which you can do this and those kits tend to be rather expensive, for example it would be easy to build a baja from scratch and entirely out of upgrade parts but you would have to be a very patient millionaire to do so. BTW, it is possible with the losi micro-t although it doubles the price of the RTR and adds a little extra.

its cheaper to go rtr as with a kit you usually need a servo esc motor battery and charger but it all depends on if your going for cheap stuff to start off with but then the same go`s for a rtr model do you want to upgrades parts straight away or just use it as is

Any model where it is cheaper to build from parts is probably a bad model anyway. If you need to replace that much for there must be something fundamentally wrong with the design. That said RTRs with electrics you'll not want to keep or already have but aren't available as a kit or roller might be worth making this way
