Batteries for starter box...

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Just a quick question, got a starter box coming from ebay but dont have a clue what batteries to use to power the thing. Been recommended NiMh sticks but from reading reviews, dont last very long and are not the best thing to use altogether really.

Heard you can use lipo's but which ones?

Links would be helpful,

Also dont want to break the bank toooo hard.

Cheers

Okay right i just bought the acid lead battery, the 12v 7ah one, so hopefully its decent, also grabbed a charger as well, what else do i need to connect it to the box.. it does currently have tamiya connectors on so i need a little parts list in order to get it all connected!!

I'd be grateful for help!!

Electrical noob!

I would be surprised if there weren't already spade connectors wired onto the box as well as Tamiya - I have 3 starter boxes and all came with dual connections.

In the unlikely event of it not having suitable connections for your lead-acid, the easiest place to get them is Halfords or other car accessory shop. You will just need a couple of 15A spade connectors (preferably insulated) and, if you want to retain your Tamiya connectors as well,  a couple of short lengths of wire of similar gauge to that already used in the box. They usually have a common earth (black wire -ve) solder one wire to that and a red (+ve) wire to the switch and away you go.
