tingtong333
Hi everyone, ever since I fitted an Alza slipper locker to my Savage Flux, the pinion gear keeps coming loose. The grub screw is still tight in the pinion gear and I have used blue thread locker as well. What am I doing wrong? Many thanks for any replies. Hyper-d
Try red thread lock, I believe it gives a stronger hold
atom3624
If you use blue thread lock, it should be fine. Leave it at least 30 minutes - overnight is preferred - to set properly. If you start running straight after, it won't have enough time to set. If you use more permanent thread locks, like red, then ensure the grub screw is in very good condition and bear in mind you might even need heat to remove it if/when you want to in the future. Al. tingtong333
That's what I have been doing leaving it overnight to cure properly, but I've lost the grub screw now and it's the only spare part I haven't got! When I get some more grub screws I'll degrease the pinion gear properly this time and try again and I'll order some red thread locker aswell! Going back to the original message, are you sure the grub was actually tight on the shaft, or just in the thread? Might not have been tight on the shaft. Al. SchrodeMode
Also make sure that it is tight on the flat part of the shaft, I've seen people tighten it down on the rounded part of the shaft.

I'm sure that's where I've been going wrong. As soon as the new grub screws arrive Ill give it a try. Many thanks for the replies guys! Noj
Speaking from experience, red threadlock and pinion grub screws are not a good mix. You can mark where the grub sits, then dremmel a small notch in the shaft for the grub to sit in...
yoodoo
Another good pointer is what I do.If you have a grub with a pointed end, file it flush so there is more surface to grip.
