wickedgeezer
tamiya super clod buster.... picked this up today, its the original one not the re-release, is it worth changing it to lipo, or if there is any interest i might sell it
53HRA
First upgrade on these would be to purchase a twin motored ESC..The MSC don't handle very well. Then consider the lipo upgrade in my opinion
wickedgeezer
thats what i was thinking, but then thought someone might like it as its the first edition from the 80's
marder
Why twin motor esc? I run this on the siver cans plus it handles my lipo http://www.modelsport.co.uk/modelsport-uk-sniper-rv-12-assault/rc-car-products/37403
atom3624
I've got a Traxxas EVX2 powering 2x 550 cans, using 4S LiPo in my Jugg2. Goes great. Al.
bigoggy
thats what i was thinking, but then thought someone might like it as its the first edition from the 80's Super Clod was only released in 2004. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamiya_Clod_Buster

wickedgeezer
Yes i should have checked. The clod was released in 87. Then discontinued in 2004 when they released the superclod. Still not bad shape for ten years old Edited July 27, 2014 by wickedgeezer

johninderby
Looks to be in good shape and as it's not one of the very first no reason not to mod it a bit. Yes the ESC is the first thing to upgrade and any one that will handle the load will do. No need for a specialist twin motor ESC. Just remember that to work out the turn rating of the ESC needed take half the number of turns of one of the motors. IE: with two 24T motors that's the equivalent of one 12T motor. The next thing is to sort out one of the big weaknesses of the Clod design.....the steering. It really needs a servo mounting on each axle as with just the one centrally mounted one you'll never have proper steering. It's actually a pretty easy job. Tamiyacowboy
i would keep the MSC for time being. get some new sticker set for it, a good wipe over. add a cheap low mah battery nihm and let your young bro / sis / son / daughter use it. Clods had a two speed collector switch, high speed where it wired the motors serial / parallel they were also the start of what you see crawlers today. the first guys (twinset and biggusditchus) made crawlers from the axle sets running lathe motors and likes in them. adding home made chassis and making them into uber crawlers. Mod-clods were born, i would rather convert a clod to a modclod for a young lad than buy him a spec crawler theres more fun and hands on for a young lad. a long time ago clod axles were the grail of crawling then came the full case solid axles and the clods went outta fashion. if you gotta child and they want in on the RC world, you have two choices a CLODBUSTER or a PUMPKIN. they take abuse like a nightclub doorman Edited July 27, 2014 by Tamiyacowboy

PraetoR
Called what? Just when you said "I can't believe I'm saying this but I may well be interested. Depends on price." I thought "It's a lovely Tamiya Re-release, good condition, I bet he goes for it." But I didn't want to say that on the forum, because that might be seen as swaying the decision of the sale, or something.
