Hi I am use to running electrical powered rc's and have just got a nitro to try it. Any advice for a starter I know about putting after run oil in the engine after running he car. What else can I do to keep my car running with out it breaking.

Thanks Kieran

I have never broken a pull start-i cant say the same for a lot of drivers i know...

When starting your engine if it becomes difficult or 'notchy' when pulling it over-loosen or remove the plug to expel access fuel and then try again,if its still notchy start it with the plug loosened off a half turn or so to allow it to actually start and get some heat into itself before tightening as usual. This acts much like a de-compression device on older 'Brit bike' engine's that just wouldnt start on standard compression.

This one simple tip will save you from sore fingers-broken pull starts and bent con rods

If its new and you are running the engine in yourself, once the basic number of tanks is completed replace the plug with a fresh one. Some years ago i rebuilt a motor for a friend and gave him the low down on running in and aftercare-he never bothered putting a fresh plug in and just carried on regardless..at around tank number ten the plug failed-the element departed the plug body and destroyed the piston and liner as it was coming to a stop-worth considering for sure.

Just a couple of tips to get you started

Read up on engine tuning. That is the be all and end all of nitro rc's. Keep an eye on your clutch and buy some spare springs. Also get your self some spare exhaust springs and exhaust gaskets. These have a habit of breaking when you least expect it! Also use the best fuel you can afford. NEVER run the engine lean!!! Other than that just let it rip and enjoy the sound and smell.

If you are out of stock on patience then order some in before you start.  :sweatdrop:

It is a steep learning curve and for a newcomer and you need to understand a flood of information...it is like riding a bike though...at the start it may seem impossible...stick with it.

Check and check again- If something is not right then something is not right...

Never let debris into the engine- use a small brush to clear the glowplug area before removing the plug- always ensure the air filter is secured and the filtration is adequate- most fuel tanks have a filter but try not to get dirt into the tank.

Always put the piston in the lower portion of the stroke when not running- it is easy to mark a reference point on the flywheel from watching the piston go up/down through the glowplug hole.

At the end of each session finish the fuel (and add ARO)- this is something I always do because I am never sure when I will run that car/engine again. You do not need to always add after-run oil (ARO)...if you run it dry of fuel then yes definitely add oil...if you still have half a tank of fuel and will run it within the week then do not bother.

If you do use a decent amount of ARO then starting the engine next time will be hard unless you flush it through with fuel...it can also ruin a plug...

If you do leave fuel in the tank or engine for a period of time then it can cause problems.

Never run lean- well...learn what lean is...but only for a short time..please.  :whistling:
