Outwardly it has to be one of the more ugly shells on the market, but technically its brilliant ..... A shell purely made for a gopro. So you can bash the snot out of your truck and not have to worry about destroying your gopro that is precariously pinned to the outside of a body. May the flood "incar" gopro footage begin. Tug Posted April 24, 2014 Share Posted April 24, 2014 That's a daring move by Proline, kudos to them for taking the gamble. Is there any footage of this shell in use? I've long since sold my Slash, I wonder if they'll release other variants for Revo, Maxx, Savvy etc? From that video footage looks like the camera is mounted as high as you can to get the protection but the footage you get is only 50% as the rest is taken up by the body .. The back plate would mean its only really suited to the GoPro and many folks nowadays like the stabilisation you get from the sony cam which wouldn't work for this shell i don't think.. Never felt the need to look into them because the Gopro is so good. I suppose will just have to wait and see some other footage see if it is just the way they mounted it or not . As for the Sony cams personally I think they give a much better pic sharper and richer in colour and the added stabilisation is a massive plus .. There is now 3 the as15, as30 and the brand new as100 which I think blows the GoPro black 3+ out of the water.. If you watch a video of what the driver sees in stadium truck racing ..hell even sit in your car, can you see just plain road in front of you, or the dash and bonnet? so in that respect its well thought out, this shell was obviously designed for a go pro, which is fine, most who want to buy or use a action cam, will turn to a go pro because its proven and works, with a protective case on it and properly mounted to the body i cant see it being an issue with a roll over..go pros are tough little cookies. as the bloke said its got rear support etc so providing the two walls either side of the camera on the body are solid..i think really this shell is onto a winner. ..weather you can use other cameras remains to be seen however nothing stopping proline releasing other rear supports to fit other cameras. I can see what you mean, but if you look at the first picture and the video it does seem like they have set the camera to point down a bit. Point it back up and it'll probably be a lot better. With other recording platforms you will have anti vibration gel pads or gimbals giving you a better still image quality. I cant imagine a footage with this setup driving 50mph on a dirt road would be any good, worth watching on tv or pc screen, it would be too blurred . Shell is always flimsy and produces a huge amount of vibrations and without any good cushioning it will be only good on tarmac at any proper speed. A simple change of angle ( assuming it's all adjustable ) would sort that out. I think it's an interesting idea. The Go-Pro/Slash combo is obviously aimed at the mass market and for the truck/camera with the biggest sales in the US. I can see them runing camera cars in races etc. for giggles. Judging by the stones etc. flying in the front, a camera would need a case to avoid chips and scratches on the lens. It's not 'pretty' but it just makes a nice change to see something different, and someone giving a bit of thought to what they could do rather than just churn out another jelly-mould SC shell . One thing I would like to see though, is some crash footage. How secure is the camera and how well protected is it in a roll. I did take note it was angled down slightly but if you angled it more to the horizon your be missing some of what's in front of you, the point of FPV is to see where your going.. I dare say with some clever editing packages you could make a monster road movie and get some great filming shots, but for FPV surely you want a clear field of view not obstructed by a dash.. When your driving your car you don't have half the windscreen covered by your dash do you ?? Might be different if say the fake dials where actually some sort of added gps system that you put on after filming to show speed, distance etc..
