what got you into rc?

I was just wondering what got everyone in to the hobby.

i got into the hobby from watching people like Rc nerd and Djmedic2008/RCsparks on youtube and wanted my own rc to try and do what they do. The second thing that got me into rc was wanting something to spend money on untill i get a 1:1 scale car.

feel free to leave how you got in rc below.

thanks Kieran

jealousy or envy, not sure which one to use here.

basicly i could see into next door's garden via bedroom or bathroom window and i would see the spoiled brat they had driving a nitro monster truck and vowed to get one of my own and started saving all pocket money xmas etc until i could afford one.

6 months or so later i bought a hpi savage 25 ss, i then found out it was the model up to the kid next door (he has the rtr version the savage 25)

i regret buying the heap of turd, if it wasn't for my 17th bday pressy of a hyper 7 i probably would have packed the hobby in along time ago

had many toy grade electric rc's from when I was younger.

started to look into building a rc boat. then looked at cars.

A look in the local (ish) hobby shop and I was hooked.

got home and brought a model within a week.

one of my dads work mates build an electric model, think it was a Tamiya tl01 or something pretty similar.  I was allowed to have use of it on weekends when I was at my dads workplace (mainly so I would keep from being under his feet) it was huge fun. I remember the shell was a red bmw.  I had some money to treat myself and remembered the fun I had as a 8-10 year old and bought myself one, I still grin (on the inside) like the child I remember being back then

Basically I don't want to prove my wife wrong. She says I never grew up, who am I to argue.

A work buddy first introduced me to RC when I was about 35, then HO/OO trains got in the way, then slot cars. When I was about 50 I bought an early Savage to bash with another work buddy. Then my Caterham Seven got in the way. Late last year I revived an old Kyosho Optima for my Grandson but it was a little too lively for him. So I bought him bought a rock crawler and I caught the bug again, we now own 6 new RC vehicles, 5 Vintage Kyosho and a Kyosho Phsycho Kruiser is on order. To make matters worse I just ordered a 3 year MAAC membership so I can start flying an RC plane. I guess my wife is spot, I never grew up and at 64 not likely to. ;)

My son got given a half decent toy grade Tommi Makkinen Evo, loved it and when it died I bought him a Brama 10b. We had such a laugh with it I thought I'd get one as well, me being a grown up got a TT 4.6. I struggled at first with nitro but we both soon were well bitten by the bug. That was 4 years ago and now own a savvy flux XL, slash 4x4, Dingo, Scout and Firestorm flux between us. If it wasn't for this forum I would have given up long ago !

Was shopping one day, saw a electric buggy in menkind (Buggy was probably a unknown brand), box said it could so 60mph so decided to buy it. Found out it was out of stock which was probably a good thing (found out later on).

Went home did a bit of searching & then found out all about nitro (that was non-existent to me then didn't know what nitro was). Eventually came to modelsport & bought my first buggy Hyper 7 TQ2.

From their I've moved to largescale got a baja & now got a losi 5ive on the way. I know this hobbies got heaps more for me I'm racking up a Rc a month, guess that will keep the doctor away.

:D

Was on holiday when I was 10-11 and was watching 2 men with Tamiya rc's & asked for one. Got my first for Christmas that yr, then went on to race autograss from 14 but kids & family got in the way. But now the kids are older but I still can't afford to race autograss & don't have any space so RC seemed the perfect option

The mrs says I'm the biggest kid, I'm no going to prove her wrong that would be silly lol

Nothing wrong with that!

You can't control physical ageing, but you can stay mentally young by being a kid.

Walking into Beatties to get some matchbox cars and standing there gob smacked watching the Tamiya promotional videos.

My Dad was doing a job at Liberty in London and was given a Japanese fabric falcon kite and a Tamiya Falcon as a thank you. I loved that car.

When I was really young my brother gave me his tamiya grasshopper, (still got it intact)

Was running it around a mates, and he was controlling his from his window, and he chased me into a pond! For some strange reason that spured me on to save and buy

Sent from my HTC One

Had a mate 2 doors down from me who's parents bought him everything, so he had about 3 different hobby grade models over the years and I only managed toy grade ones which never lasted as long and we're never as quick, used to go with him to local model shop and look at all the different cars and thought there definitely out of mine and my mum and dads price range. I managed to save a bit of pocket money and bought what I think was a grasshopper of someone at school which was broken but I managed to make temporary repairs that would normally last one battery pack, but never could afford to fix it properly. About 16 years later few of the lads on the other shift at work had got into rc few had nitro and a few brushless and when I saw them in the yard I couldn't believe the speed and I thought back to the days I used to stare at the expensive models and thought I don't earn a pound a week pocket money anymore! I'm gonna buy one, then another oh and one for my son, and hopefully a third for myself by the end of the summer!! The lads only 4 1/2 but he's already got to grips with the controls so if he's gonna take a serious interest in the hobby I have the perfect excuse for the mrs when she sees the credit card bill!!

Had them as a kid, and failed miserably.... Move forward 'some' years, decided I fancied one for something to do on days off work....

The rest (like my career) is history... ;)

From about 6 I wanted an rc Heli but never got one. But one year after Christmas and birthday etc had enough for a cheap glow plug glider + tx rx. A kestrel I seem to remember. Any way spent many a evening with my dad building and getting ready for its maiden flight. Eventually it was built and the weather was good. Walked a mile up the fields with it stated it, dad launched it, it glided nicely down the hill. I pulled back on the stick (nothing) pulled again (nothing) running out of field now!!! Pulled back and held it a bit..... It went up and over and smashed to pieces. :(

Next birthday dad brought me a grass hopper. :) and it began.

Same as most had toy grades well not even that really most had a wire from the car to transnitter lol. I dreamed over the tamiya escort and scooby kits argos used to sell finally got a nitro when I got my first job without knowing about it I just hurt it everyday for afew months then lost it moving around. Now I'm settled with a kid and no longer group up with cider on parks I fell back into it. I knew I wanted one but after watching youtube videos I had to get one asap. 2yrs ago now.

Its funny cos the videos that captivated me are the ones I now think are stupid like all alloy rcs , nitro turbos and super chargers . Nos all that good stuff I soon found out was very bad. But it still pulled me in and im sure it does others too.
