Garf
Hi all. Bought a CP3 before Christmas as I've always wanted a heli. I soon found that orientation has lots to do with this hobby, so bought a V911. So, after a few months I think I have mastered the 4 channel. I consider the CP3 now as a learner heli but I have 1 question. If you were me, what large heli would you buy after the CP3? Oh How Original
Blade 450 3D - T-Rex 450? Well within your budget and not too big. After that you start needing massive LiPos and such like, I had a Blade 450 3D, she was a nice heli, reasonable run times, cheap LiPos, no fuss... Could be worth looking at. Also most things in this hobby COULD pontentially kill you... If you look at it like that though, you'd never own anything lol.... Be responsible with the things you own and keep them well maintained and they will be perfectly fine, I was unsure about getting a 450 after only flying micros and the Blade 120SR, but at some point you have to buy your first and the right one came up at the right price. hydro
to drop the rx included would also mean dropping the flybarless unit as the 7200bx are intrigrated into one unit inless you s-bus it and id go for a blade 450x as it flys so much better than the 300x
Oh How Original
Why a DX8 over a DX6i?
skuzzy12
I have a DX6i and it feels a bit cheap and limited. Where as the DX8 feels a lot nicer and more model memory few other nice things about it But over all i love my Futaba T8J and yeh S-bus is wicked But also if you really want to splash cash. I would go for a Align or a SAB Goblin but they require building and setting up Used to love the feel of my Trex 500 but helicopters and me just didn't work together Fast-lad sell a Trex450 Sport V2 RTF with Dx6i. Completely built and flight tested for Edited March 6, 2014 by skuzzy12
Oh How Original
For the price difference on a 6Ch set-up I just can't personally see how the DX8 would be better... Especially on a Edited March 6, 2014 by Oh How Original
Garf
Thanks for the replies. Is the general consensus that something like a Blade 500 is too much of a jump from a HoneyBee CP3? I do want to get a 500ish one day but not at the expense of decapitation.

DannyP
Hey Garf, have you got a heli simulator? There is so many ways to go but a sim really is a necessity. It will save you a lot of money in crash costs and allow you to learn quicker. What do you actually need to buy with your Edited March 6, 2014 by DannyP

wolfie1
I mind a thread on here a few years ago about a guy buying a big heli and was so excited he tried to fly it in his office at work, needless to say things didnt go quite to plan and he ended up wrecking his office and nearly himself with it! DannyP
Hi DannyP. Only got a crappy iPad simulator, the V911 and the HoneyBee to practice on at the minute. I'm not a "club" sort of person unfortunately though I'm sure there must be a club around here somewhere. There's lots of fields around by me that are unpopulated and I've been borrowing one of them My suggestion would be to get a good sim i.e Realflight7 or CGM neXt(Phoenix is a mess atm)and a Tx of your choice and practice. Save up some more funds and buy the heli you want/can afford to crash. Learning to fly A CP heli can be a long learning curve but also very rewarding. Best thing I ever did was join a club, mixture of pilots from beginners up to sponsored pilots. Joining a club will give you the chance to get hands on advice and of course a safe place to fly. In regards to all the posts about killing yourself with a heli or others. Flying heli's is as safe as you make it and down mostly to common sense. Again, a good reason to join a club. To learn the ropes in safety etc.. Also you could join this forum RCHA Very helpful bunch on there Introduce yourself on there and post your question in the beginners section. Thanks Danny, I'll get a sim. I've ordered the blade 500 now, so even if it's just sat on my shelf until I gain enough confidence to fly it, it"ll give me incentive (in for a penny, in for a pound). Thanks everyone for the replies.

Garf
Yeah, the sim may be a pile of crap. I'll post on here if it's a waste of time. As far as the heli goes, I've got a blade 500 with a spektrum waiting for my skill levels to rise. I've already had a CP3 tail motor fizz out on me on take off, so repairing that at the minute
