Rossyra's Bajas

Gonna be rebuilding my Baja this week, used up the last of my fuel today to get it dirty one last time before I rebuild her. I'll keep this thread updated as I go, getting her ready for the summer.

Here she is after today's outing.

Those red irc parts look beautiful, they should have put alittle red on the chassis here and there too. If this is what we have to go on this will ne a mighty find rebuild. Very nice baja the 5T looks great will you get a new shell the super 5t body is it? I dont know why hpi doesnt fit that shell to all of the T versions. Irc is brittish too isnt it?

I-RC do a red chassis too, but the state my stock one is in on the underside made me think the plain silver might be a better option. Once it starts getting scuffed I thought it might not look as shabby on the raw colour.

As far as I know it's a UK company, the stuff is lovely for sure and compared to what the likes of Turtle Racing charge, they are really reasonable prices.

Inovtivative is in the uk :)

Rob will be knocking about on here some where

from what I can make out from one of his emails back to me this weekend all of his stuff is made in house. He told me he's waiting for more alloy plate to come in so he can make the part I orderd so ill be getting it hot of the CNC

If his stuff is made in house then this cuts out the middle man and that's why his prices are so reasonable

I've got a good few of his bits on my baja now and I think it's cracking hope he starts doing some stuff for the losi 5ive

Some other manufactures are stupidly over priced

Nope I don't like IRC big bores, I would never run them on one of my Baja's....ever.....ever

:whistling:

:xd:

IRC is fantastic, his stuff is great quality and he's one of the best people I have ever dealt with.

Yeah to top it all off, his customer service is second to none.

Small update, couple more bits arrived today. I'll come back to the rear alloy lowers later because I'm interested to hear some views as to why mine are wearing the way they are. I took a punt on the KM ones after reading Feedtheinferno's thread.

This is the point I was making about the bottom of the chassis when you use an anodised one, and hence why I chose silver.

You can see I have a slight upward bend in the main chassis as is fairly common with the stock HPI. You can see the bumper support is bowed too, but that's one of the few KM parts I've had (replacement above)

While I have my Baja in bits, I thought I'd say a few words about the radio box. I love that the electrics come out so easily in one piece. I've added good quality bullets to my killswitch so I can still remove it in one. They are stiff enough that they won't shake loose. I suffered a burned servo last year which almost set my whole car on fire when It shorted out the battery. Here's how my electrics are set up at the moment.

jrPaphs.jpg

I am running a Savox waterproof 15kg throttle/brake servo and a Rhino Digi 4 steering servo. I've installed a 5A blade fuse in front of the power switch to protect against any future possibility of shorts. I've installed a glitch cap too in between the power switch and the Rx. I've never experienced glitching with the spekky stuff, but better safe than sorry with two power-hungry servos. I ditched the NiMH battery in favour of a LiFe cell. Dropping from 5000mah to 2000 might seem like a big hit, but they are actually about the same efficiency. This is how much power I used for a full tank bashing.

With the NiMH I was using about 2200mah running the stock analogue servos, so I'm still getting about two tanks per pack, and the weight difference is quite substantial (I no longer have the 5000, after the burnout incident, but it was even heavier than the 4300)

All looking very nice dude, those KM arms....although mine are the older version now. Are brilliant! :) You won't be disappointed by them at all.

Whilst you are doing a bit of a spend I would recommend the kraken chassis all day long. It all depends on the budget but I think they are honestly worth it :)

I was going to go that way until I read they are a bit of a bugger to fit....and I bought a Losi....the Losi may have been the deciding factor to me not buying one though lol.

But seriously if you can get a kraken, you will really be shocked at how thick/strong it is compared to the standard or even the IRC chassis.

EDIT

oops just remembered you got the IRC chassis, still a awesome buy....I'll shutup :)

Heh no worries dude. :)

My main concern with the cage is my pipe, I know the Team Chase one fits over it but no idea with the Kraken. The kraken is the much nicer looking of the two in my opinion.

Oh yeah I agree 100% that its nicer than the TC cage, but dude I know for a fact that the kraken will fit with your side pipe on perfectly so you don't need to make that something to worry about at all :)

Hmmm...got me thinking about a LiFe battery pack now. Very small and compact. Leaves a lot more room in the radio box where mine is curretnly pretty cramped.

I assume you have no problems running standard 6V servos with it.

It does give you quite a bit more room in the box. no problems since I made the switch in the Autumn, everything I've read says the LiFe cells are perfectly safe at 6.6v unregulated for standard servos.

I can't help but agree, Rob's stuff is top nothc, but I don't really see the need for the big bores, I'd never buy them.

So much more you could buy for what they cost.

Looking forward to seeing it all coming together.

I've heard a lot of good stuff about the big bores, but I have had them quite far down my list as far as hop-ups go, mainly because of the price. One good thing about them is that they are easier (and cheaper) to service if something simple like a rod end breaks over the VVC ones. At this point, I don't have much left to upgrade. The only other thing besides the cage I'd like is maybe a Zenoah, but I'm doubting that will add much for me besides the added reliability of a 4-bolt over a 2-bolt, and my engine is running great at the moment, the piston head and ring were gleaming when I looked down the exhaust yesterday.

That's good to know mate, thanks. I do like the idea of a tube frame very much :D

I've never managed to break a VVCHD one to be honest, and they are all you'll ever need in terms of size, the big bores don't really serve a major purpose over the 6mm ones.

Each to their own of course :D just my take on it.

I did, but it wasn't entirely the shock's fault, I'll come to that in a later update ;)

Just been doing a spot of de-anodising on the front end bits. Trying to cut down on the number of colours on the chassis so the orange has to go...

xz8FC5G.jpg

In they go, anodised parts + Oven Pride

10 minutes later ...

As easy as that. Front shocks looking much cleaner now
