must say it looks a nice build to do over winter But !!

the price of the kits are just to much to justify

the other problem lays with our country ( UK ) and shipping, 9-10 times the price to ship nearly

equals the price of the kit.

It is a shame companys push this stuff out but us english folks are the ones that are hit hard with shipping

import and other costs.

Are there any other kits like this hemistorm but do not come with the huge costs involved.

something less than the $400 rc4wd wants for this (

I've just bought the Land Rover pick-up body from Kamtec on Ebay.  Spent this morning jiggling it to fit my SCX and it looks fine.

Even kept the kit front bumber on.  cost me about 17 sobs.

You can find the odd us seller thats really good on shipping charges and others who ask wayy too much. Like ive seen shipping charges on one item then another seller wanting about 4x as much shipping for the same item.

If the rc4wd kit is

Been busy with the body, far from finished though!

So far so good on the Gelande. I am going for the Kahn Defender look, it's like a tricked out version with beefier arches, the turbo style hood with the hump on the hood. It also has different headlight surroundings, different grille and so on. This is my very first time working with styrene, and so far it has been a lot of fun. I started out with the fenders in front, using 2mm styrene and a 4mm offset piece to get the bulk I needed. I modified some Arches RC Jeep Wranger rear light guards to fit the vents in the fender tops, to make them look like louvres.

In addition I made the hood bump out of 2 mm styrene to make sure it's tough enough to go on a trip in the woods out here and can take a good tumble. A bit or guesswork, some heating and bending but I'm happy with the way it turned out. I have some pretty ghetto tools for all this but I don't need anything complicated for now.

I also made new headlight frames, filled out the original ones and beefed them up making the lens opening smaller, also getting rid of the bottom indicator, which I will move to the bumper. I think it will give it a bit more of an aggressive look. I also took out the hole for the grille, which I still need to build, but behind it an Axial Exo Terra Griffin radiator will be placed.

Anyway, on to the pics. Keep in mind this is my first time working with styrene, so it is way out of my comfort zone, but I'm having a ton of fun working with it.

Great work there fella. Have you seen JTSCustoms on here, does some awesome work with Styrene. Based in NJ iirc.

I will definitely check that out, thank you for the pointer!

Getting the hang of styrene, great fun to work with! Some more progress made. I cut out the grille section, and made a custom grille. Rebadged it, and made the line of the badge surrounding match the topline of the headlights, like the 1:1 version, as the grille sits too high in the RC4WD shell. I didn't feel like cutting up the entire front to fix the issue, and figured this was a nice compromise to solve the issue.

I made a new grille out of styrene, 2mm for the surrounding frame. 1 mm spokes in the center with a cut-up-frying-pan-mesh-thingy in the back. Ruining household items for your RC's FTW!

I also thought the headlights looked a bit too boring the way I had them before, so I added a ring, in which I carved a gunsight type of detail, like a compass too in a way. After grinding the largest corner off the hood to made the edge less square, I think the front is done for now.

I've started on the rear fenders. This is hands down the most fun I had with the hobby in a very long time!

Very very nice indeed, great styrene work, always nice to see something different done to a landy 90, ive got the gelande 1 and its awesome, just litraly ordered the gelande 2 today with lots of extras :-) i cant wait to start my new build now, rc4wd kits are very nice kits indeed, the quality is good now much better than it used to be, depends on what you want though, a good scale rig can be made out of a scx10 and axials are mega strong, they just keep going forever, rc4wd is not quite as capable as a scx10 but are more scale looking.
