Popular Post Dom C
Hi all, thought I may as well do a build thread for this little project of mine. I've always liked these cars and so wanted an RC one but Tamiya discounted the shells and kits sometime ago so prices have been very high. I did see the rallylegends one but It just looks wrong imo, they've clearly stretched it to fit a 257mm wheelbase chassis. However in August I found that Tamiya had done a re run of the shells so I quickly bought one and it arrived about a week later. Anyhow it's sat on the shelf since as I didn't have anything to put under it (239mm wheelbase is awkward) I did think about chopping up a spare tl01 I had but a few weeks ago a M01R long wheelbase came up for sale so I after a few pm's I swapped a drifter for it. The plan is to make a proper RC rwd Group B rally car with it, maybe a set of on road wheels for those tarmac stages like corsica too. The M01R is a bit narrow, I had planned on putting TL01 arms on it to widen it as you can do this with the M03 but it turns out you can't on the M01. With 6mm offset wheels it looks about right so I'll have to get some really wide hubs or something so I can use the proper 037 wheels. And yes that MSC will be going! More updates eventually... I still play Colin McRae rally 3 on pc (an almost 11 year old game) just so I can drive a B class 037 in it haha. What wheels are you going for? something scale I hope

Dom C
Update time, had a change of heart and decided to use a TL01 I had spare instead of the M02R, main reason being it is a bit wider so I won't have to run some really wide hubs and axles which would have been a pita. The standard TL01 is 257mm so I've cut 18mm out of the chassis and am now stitching it back together with alloy angle and glue. It won't look pretty but as long as it works I don't care. Using a TL01 also gives me the advantage that I can opt between rwd and 4wd easily which could be handy. It's amazing how quickly a hacksaw gets through a TL01. tonysmini
You not thought of a TA 03RS? That chassis is perfect under this shell.

Pteppic
Both the 037 and it's replacement the S4 were sponsored by and ran on Pirelli rubber. So my XV-01 S4 has a set of HPI Rally tyres. http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hpi-pirelli-t-rally-tire-26mm-d-compound-2pcs-/rc-car-products/13712 To keep it looking as scale as possible (interior will be next) Although these would be for gravel stages, they ran slicks on tarmac. Pteppic
I'll see if I can sneak a few minutes of work tomorrow to load a few up. Do you prefer showroom clean, or looking like it's been on the RAC?

mx steve 71
You get any further with this? I also hav 1 of these shells (still sat in the bag lol) now an need to find a chassis for it. Not bothered about running sum fancy chassis as it will prob spend most its life sat on a trailer. Would prefer rwd but beggers cant b choosers so 4wd would b fine running drift tyres for sideways action
