Joshyjol's DEX210 & Racing Write Up

Thought I'd share my 210 with you guys as I have a day off work and no plans :P (No RC either as it is quite wet!)

To be honest I wish I started a thread when I first got it so you could see the change but hey ho..

It started as RTR with the stock 13.5 motor and stock class ESC (electrics installed in the videos below)

null_zps757a4b4c.jpg

Box Fresh!

First thing I did when I got it was convert it to mid-motor as I went and watched a race meet at Bury before I got it and noticed one person was running RM and the research told me that MM was more suited to astro and high grip tracks. Oh I also got some mini spikes in yellow for the rear and cut staggers in yellow for the front! And I also swapped out the steering servo for a Alturn hi-speed one and swapped the steering plate for an aluminium one opposed to the stock plastic. Got myself a 5300mah Turnigy Nano-tech aswell to provide the power! Also hooked it up to my Flysky and sold the stock radio.

My first ever race meet was on the 12th May (My birthday!) and it was very wet! Although I didn't get my first race for free as stated on the Bury Metro website just because I took the liberty of getting a PT and registering with the BRCA in advance, to prep myself for this years racing! Pfftttt.. I wasn't fussed though as I thoroughly enjoyed the day (despite the weather) and would have payed double to race that day (I was excited to finally race!) haha. This video is the first ever time I put a car on a track, just a quick practice before the heats began..

And this video is of the C-Final. Qualified 4th and finished 3rd. Beat the TQ and didn't look too out of place for my first time. Happy days! Kindly filmed by my uncle who actually didn't tell me he was going to film it haha..

And a quick snap of the results!

The next meet after that was the 26th May. Upgrades installed for this one was the Cream RC front and rear carbon towers, Tresrey front bulkhead and rear hubs. Still had the stock electronics in and we were blessed with gorgeous weather! Not a very big turn-out as it was a club funday so there were 5 qualifying heats and a 7 minute final if I remember correctly. In the heats I finished 7, 4, 7, 5, 7 and this meant I qualified 6th in the B Final (think we only had two finals anyway due to numbers) and I finished 4th after briefly getting up to second.

So after this one I knew it would be July 7th when I can race again due to work, so I set about some upgrades. First was a 9.5t motor that maxed out the stock ESC's turn limit. I installed a aluminium rear camber link made by Vega. Some Tresrey shiney red bits were installed i.e. RR toe-in block.

Around came July 7th and race day it was, I really enjoyed the track this time as it was quite technical and you actually had to drive your car! I was hit by a cut-out in Q1 (ESC had temp cut-off turned on) so I managed 2 laps I think. I turned the off the temperature cut-off for Q2 and I was away again and made way too many mistakes and I just couldn't go quick in qualifying leaving me qualifying 2nd for the D-Final. Anyway I got away very clean and got up to first after the first corner and by some miracle I stayed there, bossing the D-Final :P I made 1 tiny error in the second to last corner on the last lap that cost me another lap! Funnily enough if I drove like I did in the final in the heats I would have been in the B-Final as I was doing similar times to a friend who made the B. Oh well my first 1st :)

null_zps1cf08aef.jpg

So after this race meet alot changed. The plastic +8mm chassis went and was replaced with the kit aluminium one. The ESC was changed to a Turnigy Trackstar Turbo 120A. The motor was changed to a Speed Passion 7.5t. The gearing was changed from 26/81 to 25/87 (May be alittle over geared atm as the esc is getting hot). The camber was changed to -1.5 in the rear. Ride height was set at 19/20mm (f/r). Shock oil was changed to 37.5/30 (f/r) and I changed the stock springs to yellow in the front and black in the rear. A new shell was bought pre-painted off oOple as it already had my desired colours on, red and white :)

Sunday 28th July. 1st heat went brilliant, finished 2nd, put in some really good laps and lapped a few people, and there was only me and the leader who caught the timer and did an extra lap over every one else in my heat. 2nd heat went bad, made too many mistakes finished 5th. 3rd heat went a lot better, finished 3rd and was lapping at about the same pace as a couple of guys who had been racing a while and kept up to them (Im happy with that). 4th heat... Well there wasn't one as the track turned into a lake (wish I had my camera with me!)

And here she is after Sundays brief 3 heat meet (abandoned due to weather).

Apart from the Cream uprights( vs my Tresrey ones) I think you've now got every red bit thats on my 210 - and some red M3 nuts I don't have too!

Just to keep up I've ordered some Tresrey red spring holders for the shocks, but now I've got a 410 too so I think you'll overtake me soon in 210 bling.......

You have all the little red washers that complete the look though, Im not buying anymore red bits for mine, dont worry you'll always have the blingiest 210! haha.. Yeah I saw your status about the 410, good call to be honest, especially at the price they are at the moment!

Just had a quick search and found that Tresrey are releasing front hub carriers in red too  :omgblinky: Shiny!

But I've already got RDRP front hub carriers (black unfortunately) so don't need the Tresrey ones. And the RDRP alloy wing mount, and the Avid triad slipper so maybe I'm bling safe for a while.....

But your 210 sure is going well. I'm not surprised I didn't recognise it on Sunday though.

They're Breeding!

With the current price of the 210's I thought I'd get another! Good for a spare car and for spares. Also gives my brother or any friends a chance to have a go at racing without letting them drive my car! :P Already got all the leccy's to drop in as they are just whats left off the 210 RTR.

Visit to Ramp City - Blackpool Radio Control Car Club

My first ever indoor meet! Was very different driving around on carpet and doing it all indoors but what a great little track it is. Its above a cafe in a big hall type room. Theres tables and power supplies in the pit area and the track is very good, simple yet challenging if you want to go fast. Ony 6 2WD cars were there and they got split in two heats. I won all three of my heats and the B Final. The 3 guys in the 2WD A Final were rapid! They all had 210's, one guy was running bald rear tires with additive and his car stuck to the track, but they are local and race often there but watching them was awesome.

I had to make a few changes to my car set up wise, well what I could change!

Anyway here are some pictures (taken on my iPhone so not great)

Another little update on Durango no.2! Its all ready to go, its got the stock electronics in it from the RTR and a spare 2S lipo in.

Here they are together;

And the inside;

SAM_0132_zpsb3bd816b.jpg

Just whizzed it up and down the drive a few times and everything seems okay!

As for the 210 I race with, some RPM rod ends are due to go in as are some tresrey bottom shock seals (MORE RED!) and some LMR motor screws.

Also ordered a rear skid plate from T-Bone Racing to go with the front skid plate I have on already from Sumo Racing!

Plus I plucked up and bought another 2S lipo to save rushing around with a charger between races. Went for another Turnigy Nano-tech, 6000mah 65-110C I think it was.

Cheers!

Another Update!

At Bury last Sunday I finished 2nd in the C Final after qualifying 1st. I did make the B Final but the 4WD's got mixed in and I got demoted to the C :P

At this point still hold a record for never making it out of the bottom final haha!

Until......... Last night at Ribble Valley RC Car Club where I qualified 2nd in the C Final (D being the lowest). The top qualifier didn't race so I started 1st and finished 1st.

After Q1 I was 8th overall out of everyone but in Q2 a marshall wasn't watching for incoming traffic a.k.a My 210! Full throttle into his foot, and I popped a ball cup and in Q3 my pinion came off  :banghead:

I must say although I enjoyed my racing that night the driver etiquette there is some what poor, many times did I see (and have it happen to me!) someone taking the person in front out, and sometimes it looked like they meant to do it. And they never stopped to let them have there track position back.

Also when you come into lapped traffic they don't let you past, something which I do even if I'm on a quick lap..

On a side note the marshalling was poor too..

Anyway some snaps!

The track..

null_zpsd4fb8b1c.jpg

And my Final time sheet... Bossed it! haha

Been down at Bury Metro again today, really good day and the weather held out for us! :)

Finished 1st in all four rounds of the qualifying heat I was in, closely contested with Si and his blingy DEX210 in most of them (red bits make it go faster!) If I remember correctly he put in some faster times in qualifying but he had a couple of problems I think..

Just made the B Final starting 5th (C being the lowest final).. Finished 2nd, which I'm pleased with but a couple of faster guys didn't finish so that pushed me up abit! :P

As for the 210 in terms of upgrades.. I have titanium wheel nuts, titanium turn buckles and camber links, with JConcepts white ball cups. I had to change the ball studs to. I have also gone for some softer springs in the rear and they helped handling massively!

Next on the upgrade list is some more red bits! Maybe more red washers and nuts and some spring holders! Also looking at the RDRP wing mounts.. All just a maybe at the moment though as I am saving for a new radio and a hauler! :)

Cheers

By some problems you mean a completely non-functional diff that frequently gave me 1 wheel drive, front stagger ribs with zero grip and tyre glue that won't stick!

But yes - even when everything was working you were still damned hard to catch!

My 210 is badly in need of a rebuild. And neither of our 210s are half as pretty as Ben's lovely new Vega 210.

Some updated photo's of both of my 210's. I decided to install the old dimec +8mm chassis off the rtr onto my spare 210, that way it can wear the shell I briefly used with it :)

Update time!

went to Ribble Vally on the 20th and qualified 1st in the C final and finished 2nd if I remember correctly. I think in terms of lap times I was still in the 15 second range..

I also went again last Friday, the 27th and the night was more relaxed, less drivers turned up, and the driving standards seemed to improve after a stern word from the organizers, telling us to be good as the club was starting to get a reputation..

I set a personal FTQ in each of my heats meaning I was getting faster and I qualified 7th for the B final.. Quite pleased to make the B and happy to finish 3rd! Others in this final were running foams and additive and this seems the norm there so may invest in some myself. Just thinking back every car but one in the A final was running roams, and they definitely work well. Top guy in my final was using a 4wd as finals are mixed. Also cracked the 14 second lap!
