Andythecrane
hi folks, I am going to try and document my revo's rebuild over the coming weeks. It started out as a roller bought from a forum member. Vantage carbon fibre chassis. RPM arms. RPM hubs. Tekno rear wing and mount. F.O.C. gearbox mod. Big Block engine mount. And today I have started to strip it down to the chassis for cleaning, not quite knowing how it will end.........
The Dark Knight
Looking forward to see-ing you progress this, have you looked at the Revo platinum RX box? It's smaller and looks alot neater than the stock box. It looks like you already have the Revo platinum throttle servo box.
Andythecrane
I am going to change out the tank and battery box i think. Has anyone got any thoughts on the TEKNO mod?
Andythecrane
I managed to strip down the front half today, With the aid of a marker pen and ice-cream tubs, i was golden.

Andythecrane
I have opened up the diff carriers and was net with some toffee oozing out of the diff.... So far the diff carriers look intact and no obvious defects. Still to clean.... Need to watch You Tube vids on overhauling the diffs. The Dark Knight
Looking so good, have you come across any issues? Have you thought about about dying the arms and knuckles?
Andythecrane
I now have the front end stripped off, and in there appropriate ice-cream tubs, i am left with this; The Vantage alloy under chassis protection is a fine piece of engineering as well; Managed to get the gear box out, looks intact. will open it up another day. Andythecrane
I have thought of dying the arms and hubs. Not decided the final colour. I will have to get the wife involved with that one as i am colour blind. But i have a notion for bright orange?
Andythecrane
The chassis looks damage free.

Andythecrane
Finally managed to strip the Revo to the bare chassis. Had a good look at the chassis and it is in good nick. Every thing is going to get a good clean in Duck oil, open up the diffs to have a look inside, and clean. I think i will start at the back and rebuild to the front. Andythecrane
One thing that i noticed is the carbon fibre chassis is very light in my hands.
The Dark Knight
One thing that i noticed is the carbon fibre chassis is very light in my hands. It is pretty light but plenty strong depending what you're doing with it, my one handle big bmx dirt jumps and skateparks Edited February 4, 2013 by The Dark Knight
Andythecrane
Can't wait to get it running........ Have to watch some YouTube vids for methods of rebuilding the diffs. The Dark Knight
You'll love it, have you driven a Revo with the stock aluminium chassis? The carbon chassis really changes the feeling of it, feels awesome! Here's the dirt jumps I was on about:
Andythecrane
Never driven a revo yet. Everything is going to be knew, right down to the TX, as I finally bought a wheel type. I better like it. LOL. Sent from my phone, using Tapatalk for Android......Now with Scottish language translation.
Andythecrane
Opened up the gearbox and had a look inside; Apart from a proper clean, everything looks ok and the gears are intact. No teeth missing.
Andythecrane
Opened up the rear diff, gunk every where; It Needs a better clean, i just gave it a quicky..... I will soak it in duck oil for a while. The bearings are a bit gritty, but a good soak and manipulation should save them for a while. Does anyone know if there is a repair kit for the diffs, as the gasket that seals the cup has seen better days, and new silicone seals wont go a miss either. The Dark Knight
The diff cups you have are extra, they're usually plastic. I would look on the traxxas site at the exploded views to get the part numbers for the gaskets, I can't get onto traxxas site just now for some reason. Andythecrane
Opened up the rear diff, it was covered in gritty fibrous muck, hopefully it wasnt poo...... I think this diff is generally ok as well, just new gaskets, and a better clean before the proper rebuild.
