Garry's Focus....hang on, thats not a Focus?!

Well, this is what I've been fiddling with this summer. Nothing special and never will be, but hey ho, its wheels and better than a skateboard!

Copy+pasta'd from another forum.

This is my third car after a couple of Corsa B's (a 1.2 LS and a 1.6 Sport). I was looking for a Focus to be a bit more grown up in the work carpark, and nearly bought a 5dr 1.8 Millenium in their famous banana yellow, but the seller sold it before I could get the money to have it.

Picked this one up in April, had good service history and recent clutch replacement so seemed a good buy. Wanted a 3dr over a 5dr, wasn't too fussed on engine size.

Standard apart from a cat-back Powerflow.

When it was on the test drive, I noticed the creaking/grinding when steering, first thoughts were the steering rack (

So, the all red-rear lights? Well I wanted some USDM rears, which are mainly red (their stop/turn signals are combined, with a clear reverse in the lamp unit), but the costs are silly.

BTW, the repeaters have silver bulbs, just never took pics of them fitted. Will do soon.

So, the headache. Try this....but on every bolt....

Thats the eccentric rear toe bolt on the rear wishbone. Lower the car and you need to adjust the rear toe. On the Focus, they used cheap metal, cheap fixings and no anti-seize grease. So, apply a bit of torque and snap goes the bolt. Every one of them. Was not a happy chappy. It was about

Near enough every bolt was cut off. The fitter I used said he's never sworn at a car so much in his life. At least its replaced now so shouldn't be a hassle in the future!

More pics, really should wash it.

And when it got a fresh 12month ticket last month, it got the best advisory I've ever seen:

Its only a 1.8 so 115bhp on a good day  Not really someone who needs powah so I'm not that interested in performance/speed improvements. Maybe if I did a trackday... Have had a few ST170s get my attention though and a friend used to have one a couple of years back with a Bluefin so I know they are potent packages, but I really need to have a car doing more than 30mpg on short runs, an ST170 would be closer to 20/21mpg.

I got mega lucky with them, mis-labelled on ebay as being 5x108 instead of 4x108, they were minty mint and even came with spigot rings and a new set of Kenda tyres (no kidding, even had the coloured wear blocks on, so probably less than 250 miles on them) for a grand total of

Shame I managed to kerb one pretty bad avoiding a dozy driver when I was coming home from work one morning. Not so pretty now (one of the spokes have deep gouges) but still presentable from a distance. It'll get me through until the tyres wear out, then it'll get some Calibres or some other BBS-ish wheels. Or, the other plan is something from TVR as the Griffith and early Chimeras were 4x108. The rest of the car isn't too pretty though. I scraped the front bumper on some chainlink fencing at work, the previous owner bumped the front and broke the paint around the passenger side bumper indicator (and naffed up the foglight, so it loses connection on bumpy roads), and at some point in its life its had a partial respray as the rear flanks are darker than the front or doors. Very noticeable in dull light or when I can't be bothered to wash it. :( Can't justify a respray on the whole thing.

Amber enough. Its an advisory on the MOT that it has ''a product on the lense that reduces light output'', thats the Tamiya Red, but haven't been pulled for it. Heres a pic right after I did the bulbs, thats 2 coats of green but I've done 4 in total. The less red you use, the less green you need, mine was about 3/4 of a can .
