should be a fantastic build, i must say your attitude towards it is amazing =] i'll be following this one closely =p

Thanks Norco, that means a lot; as I say, i am a HUGE newbie to this and don't want to upset folk by coming over all knowing when I'm not!

Sounds good mate but i would be concerned about getting a cats ass in your box

ROTFLMAO - being a tight Yorkshireman a free cat's ass is not to be sniffed at!

I can't wait. :) It's about time! Let me know if you need a hand.

MGM would be perfect, if you can wait till early March I can help you out there! ;) ;)

Castle-Neu do the 2028, which you've seen at Modelsport, this is probably the easiest motor to get your hands on, tested and proven to run great on 8s and it's covered under our awesome customer service should anything go wrong - which to be honest, when you are paying

just taken delivery of my BL baja and loving it so far :) really didnt expect it to be so big!!! :o

one thing i would say tho... you should have gone for the limited edition 5SC ss... the Slipper clutch will come in handy on a the high powered BL setups your gonna run :)

Subscribed, definitely would have gone for a 5ive had it been me. ;)

Looks like your seriosuly going ahead with this unlike most 1/5 brushless projects top man!

If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for it as i read it was cheaper i'm guessing you got it from jespares too judging by the Haribo's :P

Anyway, this is a mega step up from melting VXL motors :whistling::tease: So take your time mate, you'll learn heaps! High-voltage setups are not easy to get to grips with, like anything high performance, they are a lot more likely to cause problems.

and yeah, that Baja was a steal mate, quite literally got it at trade! :sweeeet: I think they've realized now.

Nick, thank you - it was our chat at the back end of last week that helped me to my decision, esp with the MGM news..... I've had a look at those LMT motors and they are gorgeous! I have no issue with paying for quality, and this build HAS to be top quality from the off.....

As for melting VXLs, i may have done another one, in which case I'll be seeing you at some point today! :tease:

Ah, the slipper clutch issue - one of the burning questions in my head at the mo.....research time I think! And yes, it is HUGE - I collect 1/6th scale anyway so am used to large scale vehicles, however this is just amazingly huge - still in negotiation as to where it will live when built :whistling:

I like the look of the 5ive but wanted a kit as I believe it will teach me more than simply converting a ready made truck. It also allows me to fit upgrades as I go, rather than fitting stock parts and then removing them. I hope to recoup some of the build costs by selling off spares and figured they would be worth slightly more (and be more appealing) if they are untouched by human hands.

and yes, it was JEspares  a mere

What? Whose did you buy? We have to meet up soon.

What system you running? I'm on CC Mamba xl with turnigy 780 kv motor, a great setup with no issues.

Excuse the thread hijack, lovely looking build. Mgm make great stuff, I have 2 of their ESCs. The turnigy motor I'm running is good for 60 volts, but if you're looking to spend big bucks then look at the CC motors, expensive but awesome.

I'll keep an eye on this, don't take too long now.

Well good write up!very impressed motor wise hard one, I had mine made took 41/2 month but I can run nice volts on it, you are better of buying a combo from MGM 3060 would be great!most of my stuff came from USA motor from offshoreelectrics no fees, and lipo wise the better you can afford All E Rc email him 1st,if you buy the castle motor which is good,8s only you are limited, you would like to run 12 s most can.more power and fun, will watch this

Sunday 26th Feb

Brief update - research is on-going however RPM upgrade arms are next on the list, as I can't start building it til I get some. Am away this week for a few days too so won't get these ordered til t'back end of t'week.....

And to add fuel to the fire, I'm contemplating fitting front brakes; I think that by adding a separate braking system, it will reduce wear on the motor by not using that to brake the truck.... A rear brake comes with the kit, a nice set of hydraulic front brakes might just be what's needed...something like:

Purchases - a Tx and Rx, bargain price, brand new return to MS missing packaging, so a fair deal was struck.

The system has built in telemetry, so i will be able to monitor (amongst other things) on board temp from the handset; running high voltages as we know generates heat, fans will clearly be fitted but being able to see what temp is going on in there could save many pounds in the long term, especially when the truck is several hundred feet away!

And the Black Iron shock socks arrived from Germany - they won't be seen but will be in keeping with the shell/theme, as well as doing their intended job!

Cheers all

You will need 4 channel for front brakes? That means eBay for a Futabu 4PL, o you can channel mix

Thanks for the link, something new to investigate! I wasn't aware of needing a 4ch, but that's the fun of learning

I am looking forward to this :D , nice cat :hahadance:

Big Puss says thank you for admiring her rump! She is a most pleasing animal and is currently curled up on our lasses lap. She will, no doubt, become a right PIA when assembling the kit!

Them futaba's are fantastic, Pretty sure you don't need 4 chl for front breaks though.

Sorry to disappoint you but from what I have heard the telementary is supposed to be a waste of time.

Possibly Dom, but it has to be worth a go - the speed sensor doesn't really worry me, it's a temp sensor that is key to prevent that magic smoke escaping; I would look a right ************** hooning off after it if it set on fire in public!

That's the burning question at the mo mate..... I am not rushing into a quickly available system just cos i could have it now. Also, I am not using this for anything other than bashing for now, but would look at racing in the future. In my mind, I want a system which is capable of more voltage and power than I intend to run; if I am never running the system at max but still having great enjoyment, then expensive electics SHOULD last a long time. and if I ever want more from the truck, it is already there, with just an esc tweak or battery increase.

I must arrange to take Nick for a beer after work, feed him some pub grub and then delve into the workings of his mind, for his understanding of large brushless sytems is good. Any other advice is greatly appreciated though.

sorry if that all sounds a bit crap, the full magnitude of certain elements of this build is slowly settling in!!! :sweeeet:
