Hi all.
Following some reading about I was struck by how many times it was 'said' that after run oil was very important, but I still don't know exactly what it is  .
Can I just use something like WD-40 or 3in 1 or is it a rare and expensive substance that you can only get from a model shop?
How is it applied exactly; is it put in the carb, is it poured down the glow plug hole ?
Is it applied in a few drops or is it poured on?

Does anyone have after run rituals ?  No not saying a prayer to the great god of buggys pleading that nothing is broken, but some technique/ritual applied to the engine.

It's not rare at all. All modelshops sell them and there only a couple of quid.
I personally always but a couple of drops down the glow plug hole and pull the pull start a few times and leave the piston at BDC.
Some people never use ARO and never have problems with there engines.

Take your pick

But for the sake of a few quid it's just as easy to go LHS

After run oil, is used to help lubricate the engine after use and also prevents rust inside your engine.

I put 2 drops in after a run and pull the pull starter a couple of times with the glow plug out. Another 2 drops in then put the glow plug in and pull the pull starter another couple of times. Put the piston to bottom dead centre (bdc)

For start up I remove the glow plug and pull the pull start to get any exess after run oil out. I have found it helps quite a bit for me

Nitro fuel is hygroscopic (it attracts water), thats why ARO is so widely used.
I have heard of people using wd40 as well as other stuff, but for the sake of a fiver, just get ARO...

Thanks all.

I meant I didn't know what the particular oil was I knew what it was for .  So the consensus seems to be you could use WD-40 in extremis but for  three~four pounds it was as well to use proper after run oil as sold in 50ml bottles by the LHS.  A couple of drops in the glow plug hole and turn the engine over a few times .

Ueah just to coat the piston and liner. Don't know the make up of it but a 50ml bottle lasts for ages well worth the few quid

Yes thats correct - the after run oil is just there to protect the water residue that builds over time and making the insides oxidise (rust)
WD40 will also do the job. One Small spray in side the glow plug hole and a couple of pulls on the starter is enough.

Or you could just buy AFTER RUN OIL :xd:

Most people seem to use ARO, but if you use your car regular like i do (at least twice a week) is it really neccesary ?
