I had a Smartech with the 23cc 3-bolt...and there was nothing wrong with it... it was actually pretty nippy for a 23cc. The problem with 3-bolts come when it's time for a new headkit....and you find you can't easily get one. I pulled the 23 and fitted a CY26 in it's place.

i can't see why there would be a problem with a 3 bolt engine when there are 2 bolts on the market it is one support bolt  and it should keep gasket tighter and run just as good

Until then, 3 bolts suck

Never seen one or looked at one, so any answer would be a guess, not a good thing to offer advice with a lack of knowledge on the subject.

The old Smartech 3 bolt ( and remember that Nutech who make the Pubisher is a spin off from Smartech ) was OK until it died, then you struggled to fix it.

I'm sure you'll be able to get bits from Nutech, but it means you are tied into them for.

The build quality on the 3-bolt I had was actually pretty good, and it was certainly a match power wise. If it was possible to rebuild them with easily available parts I would have kept it....but it wasn't so I didn't.

Really ?

I must have a different site then, it did say 4 bolt cy, it just says 28.5 now, no mention of bolt numbers.
