18t really ? sure you dont have x2 diffs ?

i ran that combo and smoked motor and MMM

Must be bevel gears from x2 wich is 10t/45t (gear ratio 4.5) where x1 bevel gears are 13t/43 (gear ratio 3.3).

18/48, X1 bevel gears , 48 spur , 4s ,max speed 70mph - defo high temps
18/48, X2 bevel gears, 48 spur, 4s , max speed 50mph
Check web http://scriptasylum..../top_speed.html  for max speed and can work out what pinion you want :)

I would check how many T you got on bevel gears and then choose pinion

Decided to go for the Xerun 2200kv combo, any ideas what sort of speeds i am looking at?

Also, i don't understand 2s, 3s etc for Lipos, what should i be running? What charger should i get? Do Lipos still have a tendancy to combust?

Last time i ran Electric, this was still in its infantcy so to speak.

Should get some pretty decent speed from running those electrics, 50-60mph should be easy.
As for what LiPos, it's your choice, I found 5S was a good fit, and performed great, good speed, not too insane like 6S, but faster then 4S.
I was running a 5000mah 30C Turnigy's 2S and 3S in series :good:
LiPos are no more dangerous than NiMH if treated correctly. Just keep them balanced, don't mix cells that are different capacities, ages and C ratings and brands, don't run them below 3V, don't damage them etc.

Charger wise, I got a Turnigy Accucel 6 and a 200W PSU (the 50W one melted lol).
Great little charger and very cheap.

2s = 7.4v
3s = 11.1v
4s = 14.8v
5s = 18.5v
6s = 22.2v

each cell (1s) is 3.7v

so 2s (2 cells) is 7.4v

Hope that helps

Basically More cells = Higher Speed as your using more Voltage which = More Power.

So to answer your speed question its all down to your Lipos and gearing.

Swap the Center spur out for the x2 43T and your good to go, You dont need to change the diffs or anything.

Lipos are extremely safe if you just look after them like any other thing.

Dont throw them about, score them or puncture them. they just let out heaps of smoke and fire if there damaged enough, and the smoke isnt good for you.

That explains it a whole lot better thanks :)

Any Lipo recommendations please? Something with a good run time on 5s?

if you want a good runtime you need 5000mah or above.

All lipo's are different sizes, so you will need to find one that fits your Battery tray.

Most people get there lipo's from here: http://www.hobbyking.../store/index.rc

Go for 48T or 46T spur, then tell what electric you thinking to run (motor KV) and what batteries (how many cells) then can choose pinion (more less) :)

For example 48T spur , 2200KV motor and on 5s a would start from 12T. Havent seen x2 43t spur. Dont forgert hong nor crt x1 orginally got 62T so on 48T or 46T spur you need small pinion

Dom, why would you only recommend the Xerun for racing? I won't be racing but thought it would be a good option?

I also thought the Xerun was the successor to the EZRun?

Thanks for all the advice so far folks :)

Those Xeruns have been around for a While.

The ESC i linked (EZrun 150amp Pro) Is a V2 model and fairly Recent.

Hence why they now have Bullet connections On the Actual ESC.

Ok sure, its a little bigger than normal but i see that as a good thing, It has a good weight and look to it, Like its actually worth the money you paid. Id take another over an MMM anyday And i dont Like the Tekin Solder posts.

And to add, i ment 44T spur, Hit the wrong key and put (43t)

Thanks for the advice guys, its been a ton of help, feel free to add more suggestions/upgrades if you wish, i am always open to suggestions.

I'll be stripping the Hong Nor down and having the CNC bits and the Chassis anodised in Black and rebuilding from the ground up.

I like the look of the Xerun 2200kv combo so i will probably get that.
