the basic one because the 2 speed is useless off road and i've read numerous bad reports with regards to its reliability

Id get the 2nd one with the 30.5cc, the 23cc with a standard exhaust is very slaw you that £100 will go very quickly anyway. Bajas are expensive to keep maintained..... Good luck.

Btw you can convert to a standard 1-speed for about £30 so its not that big a deal and the points raised above are valid and correct 2-speeds arnt usefull for bashing off-road.

wares getting the first car mentioned up to the spec of the 2nd baja has as standard would cost atleast £500. A 30.5cc motor is £200 alone.... and i good pipe is atleast £60 whitch the 2nd one has as standard.

If you going for a km why not go for the km 2.0

http://www.rcmodelz....RC-2.0-29cc.php

Has some alloy where it needed and some that i feel isn't. Plus you get stock plastic arms too.

hate to break it to you but neither as they are King Motor not HPI, You will be spending more time fixing a King Motor than running it.

HPI quality over cheap copy.. No brainer really...

numerous people run KM's they are not a bad clone at all. for newer people to 1/5 they represent great value for money. and this isn't a helpful post to the op

Ahh brand snobery, gotta love it.

We only have 2 HPi cars out of the 5 in our group, they break just as often as the KM's or Rovan's ;)

Mind you not many of these cars stay stock long enough to be called HPi after a while anyway

I own a genuine HPI Baja, but I bash with a load of guys running a mixture of KM and Rovan.  All of us have had the odd issue here and there, but if I were to buy another, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a clone.  Great value imo.

Forgot to mention! Did you not think the reason he was looking at the Km Baja's was the fact they were less than a hpi one? maybee he only ha s enough for one of these? are you willing to pay the extra for a hpi one if he only has enough for a km?

Not only that mate but if he planning on modding it you can still do all that and it will still be cheaper than a hpi.
My rovan cost me in total £670 ish
but that covers everything
Fees from customs
car
30.5 OBR
windows
killswitch
rollcage mod
side guards
bumpers
hitec 5765 servo
Alloy clutch bell
Hostile spur
