So its time i got a thread for my beloved R/c's

So what do i have?

A Hpi Rush Evo
A Traxxas rustler VXL
A Hoboa Hyper 7 TQ
A Losi Micro T

So whats happened

Well the rustler and the hyper fell under the recession and were left in a unmaintained state, and needed more spending on them

The Rush Evo has been lightly Restored for the Shelf - never to be used again

The Micro T - well hardly used, the recharge system let it down and the battery clip is made of cheese

So i'll start with the Rustler and its basic restoration

It had Terrible tracking issues, Shocks bounce around alot, Tyres unglued, Unbalanced, Worn out
play in the steering and rear bearing hubs

differential had leaked its grease out badly...... the shell is in a state, refuse to get a new one tho....

The Black Bits - aren't soo black no more

It was just showing signs of been unloved......
I didnt take many pictures, pure and simply because its nothing interesting really like replacing bearings and stuff

But here it is

Here is the befores and after
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

So Out comes the black flexi vinyl spray and the lacquer spray
used lacquer to make the paint abit more solid and less likely to chip off like last time

Another update in 5 mins

During the Strip down i had a spin of the motor
And though.... oh this aint right

very rough and gritty.....
Its been well used, never serviced, this is the time and place

So Out come the allen keys and the magic is stripped down....
Well no wonder it wasn't smooth....

Posted Image
Posted Image
Posted Image

Basically the bearings were running on grit instead of the ball bearings... never good

So cleaned up and sprayed and lubricated with light oil
The whole lot has gone back together

Posted Image
the Cold look is due to the Contact Cleaner Spray used :)

My question is tho, whats this green stuff on the rotor?
Posted Image

It dont come off - so it remains on

Another Update Shortly!
The diff next :)

i would say the green stuff has been used to balance the rotor

To be honest the differential didnt feel that bad
It just looked bad..... And knowing the grease had escaped

Time for a Service on the diff

Not much to show
usual Greasy mess not in the right places......

When cleaning i found this.....
Posted Image
Posted Image

Great..... This isn't the first time the rustler has shattered the pin
Its a weak spot
The Pin comes pre done into the Shaft, so £3.50ish later, a new one is ordered
It didnt surprise me that both the First gear and Differential gears had worn there bearings out, it spins at a stupid speed.... The middle gear, solid as a rock still....

So the Diff was cleaned up and left in a tub

I love the Traxxas Diff Clean Magic happens in here
Shame its a leaky diff, that dont hold fluid..... as it could somewhat do with some power equality in it
Posted Image

So packed full of grease, its sealed right up and Again in the box waiting for parts
So the diff had a Clean
Rebuild, replacement bearings and Regreased :) Sweet and feels like a nice Honey filled diff again

Another Update Shortly possibly?

Okay this is the last post tonight for the Rebuild So far

I've built the model back up for 1 reason.... To keep things tidy

The Shell
battered and bruised, its lived a hard life, and done a good few 70mph roof skids......
It was past it
But wonder to the inventio of Duct tape! life is restored!

Posted Image
Posted Image

There isn't any decent material remaining to consider a more perminant solution, the plastic is thin and cracked all over the place, this is just to tidy the shell for now

But here she is at the current moment, rebuilt, but no way near ready for use yet.....

Why do those 2 images near the bottom refuse to show properly?

Eitherway
Here are the direct links for the 2 images
So we can still play - find the fault with the Front Shock tower

Not Dyable plastic really

the Spray i've used is a Flexible Vinyl spray, which is meant to dye the top surface which it did in some places not others....

i like the cable retainer buddy, excellent idea :) another addon that may be worth doing (taking into account the previous dirt) would be shock socks maybe? might be a wise upgrade :)

:shockingscary:  avoid the new castle stuff, it's not worth the risk! HobbyWing ESC's are getting better every week, and theyre dirt cheap - a wise investment!
