agreed, sometimes power is not what you need at all.

each to their own but if im spending £500+ on a new sav xl i atleast want it to be as quick as the existing nitro offering .
It seams a backward step to put an engine with the power of a  .26 nitro  eninge in a sav xl .

that would depend on you point of view, yes you putting less power in the truck but you are trading power for longer run times, cheaper fuel, etc.

like i said each to their own ....but you'd also be trading power, speed, excitement etc...... hardly what the savage is all about.

The engine in the savage xl isnt that great an engine though is it... a good .28 for example, a picco pill push an xl very, very well so if the petrol engine is upto spec with a good .26 then it should be enough, haven't hpi also taken terrapins of aswell to lessen the need for power?

A 23cc engine in a baja is enough but how many bashers run a 23cc?

excitement isn't all about speed and power (2 things that the savage isn't great for) not everyone wants a savage that can backflip from a standstill.

refilling a fuel tank with nitro every 5 mins isn't my idea of fun, i'd like to have the chance to do more than 10 jumps before refilling the tank....altohugh being a savage getting 10 decent jumps is a challenge in itself...

i would love a petrol engine on a plane, for the pure reason that petrol is cheaper by miles and i prefer it!

No the 23cc engine in a baja is a far cry from the power/weight ratio of a savage xl. The standard engine in the baja v2.0's with a standard exhaust is no where near enough.

Read my post's that's exactly how i feel about a a sav xl with 26 power .....off course its enough to move it about but id want atleast the power of the current nitro model.

A 23cc baja with pipe still does 40mph but owners want alot more!
Whats so hard to understand lol

no different to any other car, nitro, petrol leccy, most end up getting a bigger motor or engine put in their cars at some point.

the point is, is that this is one of the first 1/8th petrol engines, its mainly hpi seeing what type of interest there is, if it goes well they and other compaines will see a market for them and develope better and more powerful engines, nitro wasn't all wheelies right from the word go, leccy motors didn't go stupid speeds first time it got out the factory of ideas....it will take time.

obviously hpi have to make this engine with a bais level of power in order to handle the competion of the nitro market, but that doesn't mean they will plow alot of money into making the best engine they possibly can with the risk that it won't take off.

Im not going to say that its going to be under-powered with-out seeing one in action first though.... i have my dought at to whether hpi would be silly enough to release a kit with an underpowered engine, its going to have loads of torque, have you seen how huge the pipe is???

Im probably not going to get one, because i wont have the money for one.Remember that the fuelie 26cc engine is rated at 3hp but in use it puts out alot more power than any nitro engine ive ever seen, even one that is rated at over 4hp - zr.30 for example.

umm, the savage is not about power, since when were monster trucks meant to be fast? iirc the original savage came with a 21cc engine.....

and the 23cc in the baja isnt enough, because it barely had the power to get moving. but a 23cc can be enough, there are a few people have 23's with enough grunt to show up even the biggest of engines.

remember also that size does not equal power. for example:

mustang gt500: 500 horsies from a 5.4l v8

caterham r500: 500 horsies from a 2l  engine

same power, different size. this new engine may not be as powerful as a nitro but it will have enough. and if it doesnt there's plenty can be done to fix that.
