I received my Vantage today (Thanks MS) and thought I'd do a quick review thread on whats in the box. The build quality and the inital run.

I won't post pictures as there one's above are good enough at this stage. (also another reason  )

Although if anyone wants something photo'd , i'll try to get those uploaded.

Boxed,

Vantage arrives in a 260mm(w) x 515mm(l) x 190(h) box.

Its well packed with the car having support cupboard around the wheels and the wing removed,

The wing comes in a sperate bag and includes 2 x plastic washers and 2 x small body clips

There is a seperate box the holds the transmitter, bind plug, charger units and charger mains cable.

The ariel tube is not fitted.

Also in the main box are the instruction manual and a parts list manual.

The car comes with a partial charge on the battery and everything was already bound to the TX.

Build quality.

First thing I notice is the car is fairly solid. I'd expected it to be a bit flimsy and rattle abit but it didn't.

I notice all the major screws are Hex Head.

Its a mash of light weight plastic parts but the ali adjustable shocks look weighty and upto the job.

The chassis itself is Ali and looks rigid enough.

The tyres feel a little plastic compared the what I'm used too,

The TX controller is cheap.

Its a cheap plastic flap ( which will break) with twist knob trims and a full rev/norm throttle and steering switch.

It does have a mains plug for rechargable batts.

This is my first lipo car, so the charger is new to me. It has 2 slots and therefore is calable of 2 or 3s charging. The whole kit comes with a lipo bag (as per the discription)

It does feel a little on the cheap plastic side. I'm sure its fit for purpose but you wouldn't pay more than a tenner for it.

Initial run.

Everything was bound, so put some batteries in the TX and went outside to the "garages*.

On a concrete surface the rear end is a little happy. (new to lipo inital power)

It will "donut" happily and power slide out of U turns nicely.

It feels balanced and seems as quick on the top end at my Hyper 12 Nitro

It brakes well and had a little grip roll which i'd expect on concrete.

From the inital charge there's no wheelie power...

I had good fun for about 10 minutes until..................................

I rammed it into a parked cars tyre and snapped the front shock tower.

It was to be expected. If I drive on tarmac, I do break things

In Hind sight, if I jumped the vantage and it landed upside down then the front shock tower will snap.

The upgrade part is in Carbon and is £11 each for front or back.

Modelsport should take note, people will ask for these parts and

A ) Your not listing them yet

B ) Wheelspin/CML/Apex are listing them but are on special order.

There's good scope to upgrade the Vantage and although within 10 minutes its off the road, I'm not unhappy with it.

I have other cars to play with but for a first time car some people will be disappointed with lack of parts already.

I'm looking to upgrade a few bits in the future

Wheels/Tyre combo

3s Battery / Long 2s battery

Both shock towers (ordered WS)

Hope this helps others.

I'll post more as it happens

Dan

Bit of super super super glue ;) and its back up n running.

Having a slight worry issue over the charger/lipo.

Upon charging only getting cell1 light go green ( signify's charging ) and cell2 light stays red.

No,

I got some other things to buy and do before I'm ready to race it.

I'll change the wheels n tyres to schu yellow pins, add some more carbon or alu bits, change the rx to fit with my speccy tx and of course a new painted shell.

All that and then I'll take it along for some scrutineering ......

It'll get me started but I can already taste an B44.1 and am still questioning spending out on hop ups or just bite the bullet.

The B44 would take me longer to get on the track and obviously cost a lot more but less than doing both....

based off the LRP Blast. It's a winner!

Go on, then. How many of the parts are interchangeable and will Modelsport be getting any of them in (since they're almost all listed as out of stock).

Hopefully, they'll be cheaper than the LRP equivalents (or it'll be scary if they're not :o )

Parts from the Vantage won't fit the Blast, they are just very similar models but the parts are actually different. :good:

So the "based off" is a bit tenuous, then. I don't feel the need for the :good: at the end. Shame there isn't a thumbs down one.

This'll have to do :banghead: or maybe this :022:

You'll be telling me the Maverick stuff doesn't fit the the Blast, next.

It is evidently based off it though, not a clone/copycat as someone else mentioned as the parts do have variations.

Side by side, the LRP is better quality, thicker parts in places but I'd still go for the FTX at the price it's at.

Hopefully, it won't have the Blast's major feature - cheap car, expensive parts.

It looks good, especially with a brushless setup included, though.

It is significantly cheaper than the Blast, true.

The diff housing is all moulded to take an anti roll bar as are the lower arms.

There's no FTX hop up part so I can only presume they are the same as the blast.

But can't find a blast ARB as a spare part.

Do you meant these?

Front Sway Bar

Rear Sway Bar

Freeprawn Racing has just started stocking FTX spares as well as Blast ones.
