.AJ. 17,977 Posted July 20, 2016 Looks pretty much the same as the last one lol, but I did read it now has 22 style shocks and shorter shock towers Quote Share this comment
mond 1,163 Posted July 20, 2016 The only difference I can see is the short springs and the towers look a little shorter. There's already a conversion kit for this though and the carbon fibre tower is nothing new. It's probably only worth it if they fixed the slop in the steering and centre diff. Oh How Original 7,982 Posted July 20, 2016 Generally the easiest way to see what the next version of a Losi will be like is to just look at the current models I'm a bit of a Losi fanboi, but it seems most racers look the same unless you go back several years. mond 1,163 Posted July 20, 2016 (edited) Yeah, to be fair they do change bits in each iteration but they've taken this idea that most parts will be backwards compatible so can use the same fitments or at least be converted over. Good in a way but also traps them a little. At least with the 4.0s they allowed the centre diff to be angled. If a design is good enough to continue to do what people need it for, then why change it. There's only a certain amount of things you can do to optimise an RC car anyway. I think the only thing which will change in years to come is direct drive motors on the wheels themselves. We've already seen a HPI Baja with this setup. Everything else is just putting fancy bells and whistles on existing designs, even that Arrma Nero. It's actually nothing knew. Si Coe 674 Posted July 21, 2016 Thats not completely true - other things can have a quite major effect, even if the appearance doesn't always look that different. Just taking Losi, the TLR22 3.0 laydown gearbox still looks like a 22, but its a very different car from the original. Physics determines the optimum layout for a racing design, but those physics rely on some ever changing factors to work. Lipo's for example are constantly evolving and the ideal position of the motor and battery keeps changing as a result. The switch from NiMH's to Lipo came with a considerable weight drop at first shifting the centre of mass nearer the motor. Shorty packs have altered this further, and you can bet we'll get even more compact examples as time goes on. Tracks have also changed, becoming higher grip switching the focus from traction to balance. New can be subtle. Quote Share this comment
mond 1,163 Posted July 21, 2016 I'm talking about fundamental design changes. What you're pointing out is really just optimisation on existing designs, tweaking layouts for weight balance etc. The laydown gearbox is pretty cool but it's still just moving bits around. .AJ. 17,977 Posted July 21, 2016 Seen a few more pics, it's also got the 4.4 motor option and dog bone centre shafts Quote Share this comment

mond 1,163 Posted July 21, 2016 Dog bone centres are on the 3.0. It has pins instead of screws on the battery. The chassis braces look a bit longer, the top plate is different. I wish they'd put the 3.0/4.0 rx box on it. Quote Share this comment
.AJ. 17,977 Posted July 21, 2016 The SCTE 2.0 didnt have dog bones, I'm not talking about the 8ight..... Quote Share this comment
mond 1,163 Posted July 21, 2016 You're right, it had the silly little cupoling things like the 8ight 2.0. Getting confused as I've just had both in bits. Quote Share this comment
