FTX Outback - Trailer

I see these being popular. FTX are beginning to really make some tidy kit, imho of course.

At crawling pace, it shouldn't shatter like most ftx trucks. Hmmmm. Might be worth investing in.

My Carnage has never "Shattered". Nor has my Hooligan. 

 

To be fair, my Surge certainly did shatter.

Vantage was a pig for snapping shock shafts and towers - i'd imagine the carnage / hooligan's shell absorbs a lot of impact that would otherwise cause issues - though that's equally true for any brand.

 

I've no interest in this but scraping funds for FTX's other new 1:10

My viper breaks if I look at it the wrong way. The rage is the same.  HobbyKing stuff is way tougher & a lot cheaper. Pity about the 79 day wait for parts.

I had the Vandal (HK's Vantage) and it stood up to abuse quite well, although I maybe didn't bash it that hard. 

 

Am tempted by one of these, but am gonna hold off until it's been well tested by someone with the funds to replace parts lol

 

Same goes for the Trophy/Desert truck.

Will this have fully proportional speed? Or is it full throttle or nothing?

My mates Viper is exactly the same... Although he did manage to put a full pack through it the other week without it breaking, first time since he bought it not long after they first came out.

My misses knocked my viper off the shelf. I'd spent days making bits for the roll cage to make it usable. It broke the but that holds the rollcage to the chassis :/. Its been sitting in the shed ever since. I'd also just fitted a 120A esc & brushless motor in it too. .  Ive also got a brand new 4s 5000 mah hardcase lipo . But i just can't' be bothere with it now

Thanks for clearing that up mate! Think I'll be ordering one for that price. Looks pretty sweet for under £140

Looks great at a realistic price , better looking than most the overpriced ***** out there.No doubt some company will come out with extortionate crap to fund there greed. Pity others can't make a decent car with a decent price.

Noj with crawlerzzzz now I have seen it all.

Photo bucket being a bit crap so can't upload pics yet....however.....thoughts thus far....

 

Nicely put together. Chassis rails and links are well made, although, the design of the upper links (a 'Y' shape with single mounting point on each axle) seems to limit articulation a little. Plastics feel fine, foamed tyres with nice tread pattern, let down only by the plastic grey wheels (Nige has the Land rover version). Shell has good flex, comes pre-stickered and is a fair representation of the actual vehicle.

 

Battery tray is small, we think a 2s shorty would fit, mounted on its side. 

 

Initial gripe, Very little travel in the shocks, all of which have tube fitted over the shafts as bump stops. That said, even if they were removed, the chassis hits the servo at max compression anyway.

 

Tiny 370 motor, which has a surprising turn of speed! I'll attempt to shoot some footage in the carpark at FP, only kerbs to negotiate which it really takes in its stride.... 

 

Wheelbase is good, axle width not so, a little narrow imo. Extenders are on the options list (+5mm).

 

I did bring it home at the weekend, to put round the bomb hole of a back garden, alas, decorating got in the way.....

 

For the money, I do like it and see it as a good route into the crawlerzzzzzz side of the hobby for those wanting to dip a toe. 

 

(That said, visually, I prefer the forthcoming ECX Barrage, same chassis but with the battery mounted over the front axle....suggesting this would be simple to achieve in the Outback....)

It'll not happen again  Had a chance to run it? 

 

For 140 quid, there is everything to like about it. Nige was ragging it around the office today, it has no neutral going from forward to reverse, cue much hilarity as it popped wheelies on either axle. We also discovered that on carpet tiles, it will get around quite happily on its side.....

 

Tx has a throttle dual rate trim, works well for slowing the action down for climbs and the like then turn it up to full and away ya go!

Not really, it's for someone to buy! Alun did plug in the included ni-mh (as it came, uncharged) and it just about reached the end of his desk.

 

I'd have one, they look alright!
