Teenager takes home $250,000 from World Drone Prix, Dubai

A 15-year old boy, Luke Bannister from England has won the first World Drone Prix in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Bannister’s team, Tornado X-Blades Banni UK, won $250,000, part of $1 million in prizes handed out. United Arab Emirates also announced the start of the World Future Sports Games in December 2017. Those contests next year will include robotic swimming, running, wrestling and car racing.

To be fair they can afford to be as well lol.

Probably the only place in the world that could tackle China and most likely win.

And MOST LIKELY win ? United Arab Emirates will take China one day. Qatar is the richest country in the world. Which the uae relies on massively for incomes etc. However it is also the one everyone wants a piece of. Have you seen the land they have built in the ocean ? Lol

Check out the documentary called dubai's secret slaves. They might be the richest but there also killing people daily to build the place.

And I'd back China any day. Nearly 1.5 billion population vs 250 million in Dubai.

Theirs a lot going on behind closed doors, as Pat just pointed out, it's not as open and shut as it seems.

Although we've gone totally off topic here.

Either way, IMO 1/4 million is ridiculous prize money for flying a toy, but that's just me.

Yes they're may well be but who didn't die to build anywhere ? Even over here people died building train tracks etc. However back on topic it's stupid money but can I have a blast ? Lol

1/4 of a million for a annual world prize or a 1/4 of a million a week to kick a ball? It's not so daft in comparison

To be fair I think it's even MORE stupid the amount footballers get, I hate football lol.

But that's going very off topic  I was just saying I thought it was a hell of a lot for doing a few laps round a circuit with a drone, it's like a super prize to get everyones attention.

I've never heard of anything even anywhere near that as a prize for something RC related, most I've ever heard of was $5,000, but I can't remember what tournament exactly that was.

No Chance, the UAE will have gone bust long before it gets close to China. Dont believe all the supercars, skyscrapers and luxury malls.....

I contacted the organisers and they are interested in holding an RC speed event next year. If I get more info I'll post it here

    Cheers

When I was in Dubai I enjoyed my time, (apart from the food).  There are issues like that in every part of the world.  I do travel a lot and it always sadens me when that kinda thing is present.  Was hard to accept the amount of homeless that I met when visiting the UK back in '93 for example.  Dubai was enjoyable,  I'll attend these 'future sports ' for sure :)
