Fine Design has released the very first ready-to-run, water-cooled, brushless conversion for a nitro vehicle. Fine Design took the popular 1/8-scale Kyosho Inferno GT series of nitro touring cars and converted them to electric using a high power Fine Design Nemesis Blue brushless motor and 4S 3700 LiPo battery pack. What makes these vehicles extra special is the water cooling system that allows the car to run at high speed in very hot temperatures without overheating and shutting down. The cooling system has a pump that is powered by its own LiPo pack, that sends water through a cooling jacket on the motor and speed control. The water then passes through a coil of metal tubing that is further cooled by an electric fan.

Fine Design is offering the converted Kyosho Inferno GT as a complete RTR. There are four bodies to choose from; Aston Martin DBR-9 shown here, BMW M3 GTR, Subaru Impreza WRC, and Ferrari F430 GT. When I say complete, I mean complete—even the batteries for the transmitter are included. The cars will sell for an introductory price of $895. Fine Design is planning on selling the cooling system as its own item for $139.

The Brushless motor is water cooled and is setup to use the stock 2-speed Kyosho Clutch.

Could have used thinner coils on the radiator and made it a bit larger, looks effective though. Although a hole in the front of the shell looks like it would be better then that fan. Can you actually buy the water cooling system seperatly? Any pictures of the pump?

the water cooling bit looks very easy to make bet it not be cheap looks good tho
The pumps the only thing that need to be bought in otherwise all the other bits are readily availiable. Edited by Hpi_matrix_stock

you could even try and cool a nitro, make up for over heating at idle and slow speed.

So do you mean air and water cooled then?

kinda but with a fan so it works at low speeds. this would be good on monsters that don't go fast enough to be air cooled as effeciently as they could be.

Hamsters idea could possible work if you included a thermostat into the system (basically a device that only lets cooling water through when the engine reaches a certain temperature)

yeah, it'd need a thermostat. it would be good for begginners who may not be that good at seeing when they're engine is overheating.

what i meant was with a nitro it has to reach a certain temp to run properly, and it would be hard as there isn't a set temperature for each engine it depends on tune and condition etc. so it would probably be over/under cooling you engine most of the time. Whereas a electric you just keep it cool as you can really.

On the other hand they use water cooling on boats and I doubt they have a thermostat.

my mates granda has one, not working but you can see where the diaphragm goes for the pump.

why make a electric conversion for the baja the whole idea of it is you get the power and noise of a petrol no the whine of a electric motor

its a clever concept but wasted on the baja

amen to that

Yes obviously marine engines are different, but it proves nitro engines can run cool(er).

they are. they have bellows connected to the crank and i think they take feul from a valve at the top of the cylinder [as there is water in the crankcase] but there are probably many varieties
